Multiple Home Resorts?

After 15 years of annual + Disney visits, we are finally thinking about DVC. I see that some people add on points from different resorts? How does this work as far as the home resort booking advantage goes? For example, if I have 150 home resort points at BCV, I later add on another 120 at OKW, then I want to use all 270 for a week at BCV. Do I get to book this 11 months out? 7? What are the pros/cons to multiple home resorts? thanks.

The 11th month advantage only applies to the resort that is purchased, 150 at BCV and 120 at OKW. At 7 months you can book a reservation for the combined 270 points.

Now you know the reason for owning at multiple resorts, the 11th month booking advantage.

We love having both resorts because the VWL is my favorite resort and the BCV is my DH favorite resort. So we stay at one and bank the other resort pts for next time. This way it never gets boring.:yay:

Sorry if my skull is a bit thick, but this statement is confusing to me. But I certainly get the first part that you mentioned...you actually lose the advantage of the 11 month booking window when combining points from two home resorts for a single stay. But as the other pp said, using them on sepearate (alternating) trips gives you the 11 month advantage because you are using points from 2 seperate contracts at their respective home resorts at different times.

You can bank points into the next year and (also borrow points from the next year if you need to).

So if you had a 100 point contract at BCV and another 100 point contract at VWL you could bank 100 VWL points into next year, and borrow next years 100 BCV points into this year, giving you 200 BCV points this year and 200 VWL points next year.

You can then alternate every other year using 200 points at each resort at the 11 month window.

Hope that helps.

One cannot combine points from different home resorts within the 11 to 7 month window. However, those points can be combined starting at 7 months to make a reservation at a single DVC resort.

One can bank and borrow to alternately schedule a reservation at one's home resort during the 11- 7 month window.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I like the banking/switching idea too.

If I were to buy more points resale at another resort do I add them to my current DVC account or do I have a seperate account for the new resort

Larry

if you buy thru DVC then they go on your current account - if you go resales - a new account.

if you buy a resale with the same UY month as your current contract, let DVC know early in the process and supposedly they can add the resale contract under your current member number. otherwise, it would be a separate account.

Let me add that the contracts and deeds have to have the exact same names in addition to the same UY in order to qualify as a add on contract.

I So if I end up with 2 different contracts how do you combine the points for use on the same trip. Do I have to do a transfer or can they just use points from both contracts..

Thanks Larry

you could book the first 4 nights with contract A and book the final 3 nights with contract B. i'm not sure if they can link the reservations until arrival, though...i could be wrong.

OTOH, if you want to book a 16 pt night in the middle with 10 pts from contract A and 6 pts from contract B, you would have to transfer the pts from contract B to contract A (which uses up the single transfer per year for both contracts), and then pool the pts to book the middle night.

That is exactly our plan when we get enough points at the BCV. We will need 135 pts to book every other year there and then we will get 135 pts at VWL to do the same there. Even years at BCV and odd years at VWL.

we bought our first contract through dvc that became our master contract. since then we have purchased several add ons through the tss same use year.We have also added several times through dvc same use year. We have never contacted ms to tell them we wanted these add ons under the master contract they have just always been designated as such with the master contract number and the a 1,2, or 3 ect.at the end to designate an add on. This way you never have to mess around trying to transfer from one account to the next.
