Multiple ADRs for one meal?

If I've read posts correctly, I've noticed that some folks make a number of ADRs for one meal (e.g. Friday night dinner) to keep their options open and later cancel the ADRs they aren't going to use.

How does this work? Can one person make the different ADRs at one time? One person over multiple phone calls? Several people over multiple phone calls? Is it even acceptable? Seems a little unfair to me . . . but, I'm willing to overcome that perception if its commonplace and generally accepted. :0

With free dining, I'm worried about waiting to make an EPCOT, pre-illuminations ADR, but I can honestly say that I have no idea where I am going to want to eat in mid-September. Would like to keep my options open. Any info is appreciated . . .

Funny....I have been trying to ask this very same question a couple of times today and I keep getting an error message. Now I can follow your thread.

Thank you

I accidentally made three double AR's for the same evening and when I was changing one of them the nice CM reviewed all of mine and I cancelled the ones that I didn;t realize I had double booked. That's the problem with changing AR's, I got confused as to what I actually had. Her name was Mazey and she was great!!

It's generally neither that common or acceptable by most. But people do it. Most people will shun anyone that keeps multiple ADRs into their trip, some will give a little slack for those that cancel the mulitples.

You might get a CM on one call that would let you book different restaurants for the same meal, but I don't think you're likely to get that. Most people will call back a different time and make the second ADR.

Rumor is that Disney will go back through and cancel any duplicates (same meal, different restaurants). But I don't know that I've read a report where Disney has actually done that. A few years ago (before the deposit on CRT) both DW and I got a CRT PS for the same day. Disney called us a couple hours later asking which PS we wanted to keep and they cancelled one (note - they called us, they didn't automatically cancel one). So Disney can find duplicates (ADRs are tied to your phone# so they could find multiple ADRs within a given time window on the same phone#), I just think it's too big of a hassle for them to actually do it. Plus, with large groups (or even a family of 4) you might have part of the party eating at one place and the rest of the party eating at a second restaurant.

For our last trip in May I did make some multiple bookings for the same meal on the same day in error. I had 2 for lunch one day, 2 for dinner on another day, and 3 for dinner on another day. Now 2 of these ADRs i thought I had canceled when I made ahother ADR for the same meal but when I called at 21 days to get a later ADR for FDP the CM I talked to pointed out my duplications and I made all the corrections at that time. Now I have no idea if any of these duplications were made on the same call or all on different calls. I did call WDW DINE several times from 90 days down thru 21 days.

Exactly! It is against Disney policy to hold more reservations than you can possibly use, but it is difficult to find because as was said people can split up a party (ie mom and dad go to V&A's while Auntie and Uncle take the kids to Chef Mickey's) They will NOT book 2 in the same call for the same meal UNLESS you have a legitimate explanation (like above).

I've also read the reports of cancellations, but I noticed in most of those cases they actually had more than 2 booked for the same meal, so maybe it seemed like a more obvious scam.

As far as booking 2, 3 or more per meal to keep options open, I agree with you HeatherFeather, it seems unfair.

if they work the same as before,(when they were called priority seating) it isn't really a"reservation "per say, you get the next available table so it you don't show up, no harm done. however if you make too many and make it impossible for some to get them, that's different of course..i do not think they do much of a job checking however...lasttime i had canceled some which they never canceled and had 3 for the same time (due to me changing my mind 10000 times for each meal) which i found out when i checked them at checkin.on the other hand didn't have most i had booked! so guess it's not an exact science:) in all fairness they had just started a new computer program on booking then so maybe that's why they were 90% worng

I am not sure how this can be done though. Isn't it true that we have to show IDs, therefore if the same person were to make multiple ADRs, she/he will have to show up in both places.
I assume it is with the exception that he used one phone number but different names. If that were the case, I don't think it should be considered as multiple ADRs.

We've never shown ID. Ever. Just tell them the name on the PS/ADR and check in, like a reservation at a restaurant anywhere else.

The only place I'm aware of that has ever asked for an ID is a PS or ADR that was held with a credit card. (Like CRT)

This past May I accidentally had two PS for the same restaraunt on the same night, but it truly wasn't my fault. I had waited until 90 days before my last day in order to make all my PS at once. I had that poor girl so confused, I'm not surprised she double booked me. I called about a month out to verify all my PS numbers, tour numbers, resort conf number, etc. The CM told me I had two PS for Rose & Crown on the same night. I told her I had told the first CM that I wanted to sit on the patio to watch Illuminations and she had offered 7:10pm and 8:15pm. I had taken the 7:10pm, not the 8:15pm. The CM had booked me for both however.

With the free dining this fall, I believe TS meals are going to be much harder to come by and that it would be wrong to double book, just because you couldn't make your mind up where you want to eat. I'll be there Sept 17th-24th and have my ADRs all made and even know what I'll probably order in each restaraunt. I'll also be going back Dec 9th-18th and am finalizing meal plans for that trip. If it came out that I couldn't get a restaraunt that I really wanted, just because someone couldn't make their minds up and double/triple booked, I'd be a little upset.

Thanks guys. It didn't seem right and now you've confirmed that for me.

I think I'll live dangerously and just wing it! :earseek:
