I've just been fitted with my first pair of multi-focal contacts...have had them for a few days...going back next week for follow-up.

How many different contacts did you have to try before they found the pair that worked best for you?

At times, I think this pair is good, but other times/situations...I don't think so. Everything sharp and crisp if I look at something...but fuzzy if I look elsewhere.

I was told that it does a little time for your brain to learn to ignore the fuzzy "zones".

What's your experience?

I am a multi focal failure. :sad2: I tried for the better part of a month, atleast two or three different combinations of lenses but nothing quite worked for me. The sharp contrast between the amazingly clear spots and blurry spots made me dizzy at times and gave me regular headaches. I kept at it because I really wanted to adjust and have it work. My eye dr. was concerned and said not everyone can adapt (I am in my mid-40s). So I went to wearing two different lenses, one for up close and one for far away. This system works much easier for me. However I don't feel like a see as good up close or far away as I did at times with the multi focal lenses.

So keep at it a while and really give it a go before settling. I think if I hadn't have had so many headaches I might have tried longer.

Good luck.:goodvibes

im in my first diagonistic pair-ive had them a couple of weeks-but i also went to progressive lens glasses at the same time and they wanted me to stay in this pair of contacts til i had had those a week. I adjusted to the multifocal in the contacts pretty fast and i think they are awesome-but for some reason the distance correction in my right eye is not strong enough even tho it is the same perscription that i had before-and that is driving me nuts because i catch my self closing one eye to focus in the distance. Also i find that i have to keep my sun glasses very clean or my eyes want to focus on whatever is on them instead of distance focus. the only issues i have had with being dizzy were with my glasses not my contacts. Ive used the near -far thing with different strength lenses and i think the multi focals are going to work better for me-YMMV

Well, I'm trying my second pair.

Had trouble with reading with the first pair. New pair seem to work well at the computer or reading, but mid-distance is not that good. Street signs are unreadable from 50 ft out. Long distance (horizon) vision seems ok. Not good at night while driving.

I'm starting to think the monovision route may be the way to go (different lens in each eye...one for distance, one for closeup).

I'm still not sold that any of these will be better than a new pair of glasses...or conventional contacts with reading glasses.

Good vision will win out over vanity.

Still not sure about Lasik...still too new...you've only got two eyes...just not willing to gamble.

I am near sighted and farsighted(one eye near, other far) so I have always had 2 VERY different powers in my lenses. My right eye vision is basically useless, even with a lens in it. My left does most of the work.

My big issue was finding contacts that fit well. Almost every brand I tried that was supposed to be "the most comfortable" I always felt I had sand in my eyes..

Well they finally put in Pro-Clear brand, and they were amazing. Well the dr then decided to put a multi-focal lens in my bad right eye, and it has helped me a lot.

My biggest issue is my lens dry out real easy because the one is so much thicker..

I got a lens with the correct distance correction in my right eye now-and i personally think these things are the greatest thing since sliced white bread. I have done both mono vision ( made me nauseous all the time) and regular contacts with readers ( had to have like 4 pair so they were there when i needed them). As i said before it took me about 48 hours to adapt to the multi focal-have no trouble with mid vision unless im wearing dirty sunglasses and i can see most things except very very close work just great-even read some print in a number 2 font this morning. But i know they dont work out for everyone-my Doc says at least 50 percent of people want either mono vision or use readers. Cpt Obvious-lasik does not help with presbiopia unless you can do mono vision-i cant-and i have worn contacts for 30 years-so its not a big deal to me.

::yes::::yes:: I agree with so much of what you said, the part about lasik and the part about not seeing well with the multi-focals at night. I had kind of forgot about that. I am thinking of trying a new eye dr. next time to get a second opinion. My current dr. is an optometrist and family friend who I have been seeing forever. My sister goes to a opthamologist she really likes so I may do that. She wanted lasik but isn't a candidate due to taking steroids for many years due to a chronic medical condition, so lasik not available to all.
