Bit slow to get moving this morning - Christian bit pale and weary (but at least not sick!) and Andy and Josef tired from battling to watch Fantasmic through the rain. Finally set of about 11.00 for Animal Kingdom, as although sunny the weather was fairly fresh so we thought we had a good chance of seeing animals. Glad we brought our old buggy from home as Christian not up to walking far.
Started with Festival of the Lion King which is absolutely my favourite show in the whole of WDW AND Universal - I'm going to book tickets to see it in London it was so good! Then went to Tarzan Rocks which was OK, but loud rather than tuneful (singers not the same quality as Lion King, and the other cast were athletes rather than dancers). Huge flashing of cameras went off as Tarzan made his appearance (all the mums and girls - he was yum!) Bu he just swung about a bit with Jane and then it was over. "Tough to be a bug" also very clever effects, but didn't feel it was as good as Muppets - perhaps because we were off to the side near the front, rather than the middle of the back. Fun ending made everyone squeal! (I won't spoil it for you - just stay in your seat til you're told to go or you miss it). Had a very early dinner in the Rainforest Cafe which was one of the best meals we had - Christian perked up no end and really enjoyed spotting the animals.
Then went back to the hotel, where Andy and Josef went in the pool and jacuzzi while Christian played in the adventure playground (I didn't feel it was warm enough for him to strip down to trunks after being ill).
Next day back to AK to do the top half - started with Rafiki's planet watch, a nice petting area where Christian was thrilled to spot a hidden Mickey shaved into a sheep's fleece. Then Kilimanjaro Safari, where it was early enough (and cool enough) to see quite a lot of animals, after which we walked the jungle trail to see the meerkats, gorillas and hippos. Then back to Festival of the Lion King - seated in a different section and just as good - if not better! Then to Triceratop Spin (all of us) before Christian and I went to the Boneyard while Andy and Josef did Dinosaur. We didn't stay long in the Boneyard as it was quite manic, so went to explore the retail opportunity at the end of Dinosaur (how did I guess there would be one?
) which was more to Christian's taste.
Then Andy managed to lose his hat on Primeaval Whirl before we headed off to our last ride of the day - Kali River Rapids. I was well prepared - before we lined up we changed our shoes for flipflopd and left them under the buggy, and I brought a bin-liner to put the cameras, bum bags etc. into for the actual ride. Josef had declined to wear any waterproofs, but Christian comandeered Andy's poncho which of course swamped him. As usual, I was the one in the unlucky seat - the only one to get soaked. We headed straight for the exit as planned after that (but I wished I'd changed my shoes back as my flipflops gave me the only blister I had all holiday!). We encountered more characters on the way out - and guess who forgot to recharge the camera? Luckily both boys had disposables with them.
Made our cold damp way back to the hotel for a nice warm swim in the pool and a relax in the jacuzzi (plus a hot cup of tea) before drying up and heading out for dinner. Big surprise when we got back to the room - two bunches of helium ballons, one saying "Happy Birthday" and one "Happy Anniversary", a card for me from Princess Aurora and one for us both from Mickey and Minnie.
I'd mentioned our special events when requesting cabanas 9B, but hadn't pressed the point at check-in, so this was quite a surprise and one which put a goofy smile on my face
