I have seen a lot of you talking about some mugs you can get, and use at the resorts. How do they work? Can you get free coffee during your stay or???:confused3
How much are they?

they are about 12 bucks and you get free fountian drinks, coffee, tea while at your resort.

you can't get anything at the parks but it's great for that morning coffee and evening drink before heading back to your room.

You buy the mug (I believe they cost about $12) and you are entitled to all the soda, iced tea, hot chocolate, coffee, apple juice, etc. that you can drink for the length of your stay at the resort. They are a great value and very popular and the mug is a nice souvenir!

ok, thanks :)
Can you only use them on your own resort or can you bring them with you to other resorts as well???

well here's the thing - the last time we were there - 1 1/2 years ago - they were resort specific - now the are generic so my guess is that you could use them at any resort if you were going there for dinner or visiting someone.

The mugs do now have a generic design and while there is a sign on the refill stations that say something to the effect of 'mugs are to be used only at the resort in which it is purchased during length of stay', you'll find many people that have different interpretations as to how the mugs are supposed to work. To each his own... do what you are comfortable with.

While the signs have not been redesigned (why spend the money?) when the mugs were redesigned the words printed on the mugs were changed from the very clear refills "at the location purchased" or something like that (I don't have my mug in front of me) to the much more ambiguous "our resort beverage islands" (note the plural).

WDW wouldn't have made the wording more ambiguous if they cared where you refilled your mug.

The mugs wouldn't have been changed from resort-specific mugs to generic mugs if WDW cared where you refilled your mug.

CMs wouldn't tell you that you can refill the mugs at other resorts (as has been reported here) if WDW cared where you refilled your mug.

However, for some reason there are people on the DIS that can get whipped up into a fenzy when this topic comes up.

Personally, I think it is just another quiet perk that WDW provides its resort guests but isn't going to go out of its way to advertise. It's nice for the very few people who will actually carry their mugs with them when they are visiting another resort but costs WDW practically nothing.

Moving this over to the resorts board..

Our Magical Express bus driver told us, on the way to the airport, "shhh, here's a disney secret...unless they make a big change to the resort mugs, bring em back and re-use 'em next time!"

And that is why I said "to each his own". Looking at my Spring and Winter 2007 mugs I can't find any writing on either that says anything about refills, resort or otherwise. Wonder if I should try them out at the beverage islands in the parks? :rolleyes1

Hey LilGMom -- that's a neat avitar. Looks like you have a lot of mug experience. :lmao:

I have a wee bit of a drinking problem, aka a mug collecting problem. Cheap souvies, makes my morning soda at work a little more bearable and it is the souvie that keeps on giving as opposed to that light-up sword that my ds broke within weeks of returning after one trip, or the EE Mickey that is buried in the toy box, or the....

A few mugs have died over the years and a few were in the dishwasher. :) Some people collect pins, I collect mugs.

I used one before and after a Disney Cruise last year. Stayed one night at ASMo and then at WL. Didn't feel guilty about it since Disney was taking about $4,000 of my money that week.:rolleyes1

I wouldn't feel guilty about that either....:confused3 . It was all still part of the same Disney vacation. I wouldn't expect someone splitting their stay between resorts on the same trip to buy two mugs either.
I generally always buy a new one because I don't think you can ever have enough....lol. Plus, I use mine daily at home so they tend to fade and get worn out. And there is nothing worse than a faded mug!

Using the mug at the second hotel in a split stay is one thing. But I don't think they intended it for use before and after a cruise. It doesn't matter how much you paid for the cruise. They do have rules in place.
