MTV? Really About The Music?

I know this is kind of a semi-stupid thing to be writing about, seen as I haven't been watching the channel as long as you guys have, because you are all American. But it really seems to me that the channel is more reality tv than anything else.

I grew up watching Much Music, which is the Canadian music channel (we do have an MTV Canada). It's always been oriented towards the music with shows like Top Tens, Combatzone, Uncharted, Top 20, Video On Trial, the MMVA's (which is broadcasted in 64 different countries), etc. They do have a couple of shows that are oriented towards fashion, towards celebrity life, interviews and such, but it's always been there for the music. The VJ's know their music, have their own style as each one has. Every few years they have a VJ Search, which is awesome, because the country has a say in who actually wins and gets to go on televison.

As for MTV... meh. It doesn't rate very high in my books. I watched it a bit during my vacation this year, and the only shows I ever saw on there were:

Yo Mamma
Made
My Super Sweet Sixteen (btw, this just re-runned over & over again)
And maybe a video in between shows.

& I recently got MTV Canada. I honestly swear upon my life they DO NOT have a ONE music show. I love it, but I mean.. they're all reality shows, and MTV Live. I love the shows, but I like to hear a bit of music once and a while. I think it's kind of sad that they think that they can get the Canadian audience to watch it, because MM has been around for more than 20 years, it's been our only link to the music on TV thing. (Other than MMM, and Musiqueplus)

do you Americans have anything that can back MTV up?

MTV use to be ALL about the music. It used to be so much cooler, with shows like headbangers ball and whatnot. Now, it has gone down the tubes.

Yeah, because you know he's ghetto.

Honestly I would like to purchase MTV. Get rid of all the reality crap. Bring back Headbanger's Ball, and make it good this time. Not the crap they tried when they brought it back the first time. Bring back the VJs and all that stuff. Basically make it good again.

Wilmer will never be able to ressurect any chance of a career he had. People will always remember him as Fez, like we will always remember Nick Lachey as some guy that was married to Jessica Simpson, and Michael Jackson as the guy we all thought was a girl when we were 8.

you'd need a lot of money. but it would be good, MTV needs to be cleansed from that crap. like maybe one reality TV show, not five thousand. HOW MANY REAL WORLDS DO THEY HAVE IN ONE SEASON? it's ridiculous.

I would probably get rid of the Real World. It was cool when it first came out, but now, yeah.

Get rid of shows like "Yo Momma", "Date My Mom", "My Super Sweet 16". You know, all those shows that have nothing to do with music?

Oh and I guess a new show is airing on MTV tonight. "Where My Dogs At?". It's about two stray dogs trying to survive the mean streets of Hollywood. In this episode, Buddy and Woof meet at the dog pound.

Oh and I tell ya what, those streets of Hollywood are MEAAAAAAAN.

date my mom is stupid. i can watch it on Musiqueplus over here.
i'd keep room raiders because i love it, but i mean.. most of the shows can go.

but umm.. Andy Miliknakis? What frig is that supposed to be? i don't even get it.. i thought the guy in the commercial was going to eat me.

I HATE MTV... a lot! It used to be good, but not anymore. They play crap music, and even crappier shows. Fuse is a lot better!

Hedley was... or is going to be on Fuse. I forget. They're touring the US with Yellowcard & Mae. check them out. won't be hard to miss. they're a crazy bunch of guys who will be mooning you with the words Hedley on their arses.

I just watch Laguna Beach & Room Raiders. That's all, that's it.

I'm just annoyed that Subterranean (brilliant songs on that show) is on at 12 midnight only on Sundays. Do they still call it Subterranean?

Another thing I can't show is that crappy show Parental Control. MTV is really running out of original show ideas.

And yet another thing is Celebrity Deathmatch. It used to be hillarious. But now that it's running new episodes...it just isn't.

Yea Andy Miliknakis is really stupied. My brother n some ppl I know like it. I just think it's stupied. But I totally agree. I like Room Raiders, Next, Made, and My super Sweet 16 (even though they're all spoiled). The only time there's really any music videos on is early in the morning and no one wants to get up that early. I just wish that they would change it to how it used to be but keep some of the reality shows.

Well where I live MTV plays only music videos, top 20 and all that for about 4 hours in the morning. Also, Hot Topic says its "All About The Music" but since when did selling shoes have to do with music. I guess people have mottos that aren't always fitting.

i don't know just my opinion, but I think a lot of people agree.

Seriously the only time they play music is like trl and really early in the morning and I don't even really like trl because it only plays ten songs....

Well...MTV is what you think it is. If you don't like it, that's ok. I think it's okay, the music shows are ok, the reality tv shows are okay. (Except for Laguna Beach...and types like that...*shudders*)
