We just had our family's first trip to WDW. It was great! :cool1: So we want to go back November 2006 and we did all MGM, MK, and half of EP. We didn't do AK. So I was just wondering if that new ride will be open when we are there. I know it is probably a dumb question. :confused3 :earboy2:

Hi,

Yes, barring any unforeseen complications Expedition Everest should open next spring.

I heard that it should open on Earth Day in March, which is the Animal Kingdom's Birthday Day. You should be fine except if they have major complications. I also hope it will be having soft openings during late Jan./early Feb. I hope this helps!

What exactly is a "soft opening"? Is that for people with annual passes only or just for lucky people who are in the right place at the right time? We are going to WDW at the end of Feb/beginning of March and would love to be able to preview Expedition Everest. :)

Earth Day is April 22, which is also the date of opening of Animal Kingdom. This date has been the most frequently speculated date for the opening of Expedition Everest, but previews could start as early as February according to some sources.

A "soft opening" in business is just opening without all the hoopla and fanfare. There is no celebration, media coverage, etc. When my folks opened up their restaurant with a soft opening, it was about a week before Grand Opening. This is so they could get the hang of things before they made a big deal out of the place being opened. Most restaurants I have helped opened, as well as some clothing stores, do this on a regular basis. They will quietly open about a week before Grand Opening.

Disney may do things differently; I don't know if they reserve their soft opening for pass holders, etc.

My experience is that if you are there at the right place and the right time, you can ride it. Disney will start testing with riders at a varied schedule. Hours of operation are not posted or announced, the ride may shut down for hours at a time to fix things, etc. Its getting the kinks out and seeing how people like the ride before the hoopla.

I will be there in Feb and will amble by to see if there is any activity. Maybe I will get lucky!
