does anyone know when the new ride (mt. everest) at animal kingdom scheduled to open. we rescheduled our vacation to Jan 21-29 due to hurricane katrina.

spring 2006 is last we heard for opening but they may be doing "test" rides before that .....

just check as time gets closer with disney

The unofficial opening according to another website is April 22nd. That day is Animal Kingdom's 8th B-Day and Earth Day. Of course, Disney has not announced that officialy. Chances are there will be a soft opening before that date.

We saw it last week and is looking very cool! They have the snow on the top of the mountain but there was still a huge crane next to it. We didn't get up close to it but you could see it as we came into the park and from the bridge between Discovery island and Dinoland. Oh I can't wait!!!!

No official date has yet to be released. Speculation presumes an official opening of April 22nd, 2006 for anniversary/Earth Day reasons. However, construction is moving very nicely. I would imagine within the next two weeks, all outside scaffolding will be gone from the exterior of the mountain and most outside landscapping will be completed. The village/queue areas are looking almost completely done, complete with flying prayer banners installed within the last week or two. They are currently running fully themed trains with sandbags through the mountain for tests as we speak and have been doing so since mid to late August. Technically, they've already done 2 months of train tests....now its time to get the timing of effects etc. down and apply the last minute details.

The optimist in me is hoping that Joe Rhode's initial hope when the ride was announced to have the ride ready and open for guests as soon as winter 2005 will come true. Crossing my fingers :)

::MickeyMo Supposed it used to say, Spring 2006 (that I've seen), but now people are hearing early 2006. It sure looks likes it's almost finished. Do AP holders get preference before a "soft opening?" ::MinnieMo

I though that I had read somewhere that the first projections were for Jan 2006, then moved to April. Now however it seems things have progressed more quickly than origionally thought. Wouldn't it be great if us Jan/Feb goers got a sneak peak?!?!

I know we rode Mission Space it seems like a month before it's official opening.

::MickeyMo We rode Mission Space early too! It was awesome. We're going in Jan. and have AP's. How awesome would that be? ::MinnieMo

I am shooting for an early May trip to make sure that it is open.

What do you mean? :confused3 Can AP holders ride first before they start doing soft openings? Or are you asking if they can go on before others during soft openings?

Either way, I doubt it (maybe I'm wrong). I'm just hoping for a miracle that it'll be have soft openings when we're there in December (I can dream!).

For a lot of the big attractions Disney will have a special day for just AP holders. You have to show it in order to ride that particular attraction.

I think it will be open way before April. There goal as of Wed was to have all the scaffolding down by next week. Then 2-3 weeks of refinishing the outside where the cut the steel poles from the scaffolding. Also in the next 2 weeks they want to have the plants completly planted.

The ride has already started its testing. And I belive the state inspector is due out in late November. Of course they will be doing several runs after that with CM or whoever. Then I would say late Dec early Jan the will start with Soft Opening. Then by Feb or March would be the official opening.

I'm going in mid Dec and am not holding my breath for a soft opening, but then had another trip in March that just got moved up to Feb. I hope I won't miss it by moving the trip up a month.

Does anyone know what height restrictions this ride will have? We will be there in late March and I'm really hoping that it will be open by then. Just wondering if we will have to baby swap the kids?
