MSP pricing--any insights?

We will be making our first non-summer trip to Orlando--going on Thanksgiving Day and returning Dec. 2. We usually fly out of MSP to try to save a few bucks.

Any of you experienced MSP folks have a sense if one can find any "deals" at that time of year? I've noticed, generally speaking, that it's tough to get "great" deals out of MSP. And tracking it lately, it appears it is only getting worse.

Any thoughts/strategies you have to share would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Sorry, don't really have an answer for you. Where would you normally fly from that MSP is cheaper????? I have only ever once gotten a bargain out of MSP. Right now Airtran seems to be the best deal, but they wont' be booking your time frame for awhile yet. And their direct flight times aren't the greatest.

Good luck to you!

He would fly from Fargo, ND or another smaller airport, but that would add to the cost. Flying from there ends up connecting in MSP or Chicago anyways.

To the OP, I would watch the flights and decide on a number you can live with. I have always used the $200 mark as a good priced flight. Anything below that out of MSP and you did very well. Airtran basically prices at $99 each way (about $222 with taxes) out of MSP. They do occasionally run deals as low as $84 each way, but not all the time.

Good luck.

The last couple Decembers I have flown to MCO, I have gotten something like $208 and $212 on NWA for non-stops doing a Weds-Weds vacation. Now if you are doing something like Sat-Sat, it probably will be a little higher.

I am going Dec 9-16 and like duds, I wait for things to approach that magic $200 mark before I even think about buying.

There's time. Out of MSP, we don't get these sales like people out east where you have to buy your airfare exactly 334 days from departure. Watch the fares, but don't be surprised if you have to wait until Aug/Sept/Oct for those December good deals to appear.

Who knows? NWA may end up going kaput with this things with the pilots. It's probably better to take a wait and see approach right now anyway.
