So, how early are people scoping and saving their spots this parade?

It probably depends on how many people are in your group. I've had good luck getting a spot 30 minutes early when it's just been 2 of us. I sit on the ground.

Yes, it really does depend on the size of your group, ages, any health/mobility issues (i.e. does anyone have to be seated or can all be standing?), etc. For a small group that doesn't need curb or bench seating, the wait time will be much shorter. For a party of 2, we've gotten very good viewing in the second rows with about 30 minutes wait. Be willing to stand tandem if necessary to take up less space so others can squeeze in, too!

Thanks all. Saw people sitting down for the 830 parade this evening as early as 230! Ended up taking a nap so we had a late dinner and headed to the second parade. We also ended up with a friend needing a wheelchair so sat in the handicapped section about 45 minutes before the parade started with no problem.
