MS-waitlist---not happy-Happy Again!!!

all I can say is wow....and not in a good way. I just got off the phone with MS and man did I get a Debbie Downer. Just to give you a little back ground info we put ourself on the waitlist yesterday and I still had a couple questions since we had never waitlisted before. We plan everything so far in advance so when we call and book we get what we want and leave it. Well this time plans changed we decided to drive and cook in our room a little bit more bc last summer we felt like the dinning plan no longer worked for us as our son was 10 and didnt want to eat an adult meal and the money felt to us like it was wasted. And we r staying 10 days and we thought it would be better to make some not all meals in our room....well we only have a studio booked so we waitlisted for a 1bdrm. When we waitlisted it yesterday the lady we talked to was very positive so we went ahead. So I called today to ask a ? and man was this man an anti dis person. He told me the computer puts in the waitlist not a person so when someone cancels the computer books it so if someone calls they will not automaticly get it unless no one is waitlisted for it. and to not even get our hopes up bc it wont come through and I shouldn't trust what the boards say. I am feeling sad now and not sure of what to do. This seems like more of a hassel this year and maybe we shouldn't go......

I hear about people's waitlists coming through, so I wouldn't lose hope. Maybe you should call back and talk to someone else -- it might make you feel better!! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!

Did you just put in a waitlist for BCV for your trip in one month for all 10 nights? If so, the CM is correct, I wouldn't plan on that waitlist coming thru for that many nights on such short notice. If it is just for a few nights, you would have a much better shot. We have had waitlists come thru in the past, but they were for much fewer nights, and were placed around the 7 month mark as opposed to the 1 month mark.

If you put your request in for BCV only, I think the MS CM was correct. You might want to expand your request a bit to one of the larger DVC resorts where you might have some last minute success. BCV and VWL are so small, and with BCV being so popular, I woudn't expect it to come through so late.

We are staying at AKV...and yes we did waitlist the 10 nights...like I said I am new to the waitlist and some of the nights were avail but not all and MS suggested we waitlist all so I did. So if we dont get the 1bdrm its ok bc we have the studio already booked. It is not the end of the world for us if it doesnt come thru but it is amazing the difference in the two seperate calls to MS...it was like night and day.

OP don't give up! We've had 3 different WLs go through for our upcoming vacation --- however I do agree with others, you may want to consider 2 waitlists ((which may result in room changes though)) split your trip in half and waitlist 2x for a 1br... your chances might be better with a smaller segment; but you risk having to move rooms,

Now I know you may not want to do this but have you considered moving to OKW or SSR? I am not MS so I cannot say for certain but your chances are extremely high you can get a 1BR there....

I hope your waitlist does come through. People do cancel all the time for any variety of reasons. I just cancelled a June 2 to 10 studio at OKW.

If you are stuck in a studio, you actually can prepare some decent meals in the kitchette. There are some nice prepackead prepared entrees and side dishes, like roast beef, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, etc. We've gotten Owens/Bob Evan's brand of these items from Wal-mart. Pretty good. Not as good as having a full kitchen, but they'll do nicely in a pinch.

Have you thought about separating the WL into 2? Or maybe just get whatever 1br is available for your timeframe and WL for the rest?

I guess it depends on what is your priority, is it location or type of accommodation.

Just thinking of options for you.

I've had two waitlists in the past and neither one came through. One was for a one bedroom at BLT in Jan around the marathon. We were on the waitlist for about four months. The other was for SSR around October for a two bedroom villa. We had a one bedroom, but were needing a little extra space. That one never came through either.

So while a lot of waitlists do come through, not all of them will. Be glad you have the studio.

I remember once when I called to get more information about an event I'd read about, the person was so dismissive about what I'd read on the DIS. "Oh, you can't believe anything you read on those internet boards-they lie, you know." I was so mad! The ultimate irony was I later learned that the event DID exist, and the CM I'd spoken with just didn't know. But I agree, some people can be such downers.

a couple of thoughts....anything could happen, but 10 days is a bit of a long stretch to have a waitlist come through....

things that could help....make sure you are down for both Jambo and Kidani, and consider adding OKW and/or SSR to the list, since the are the largest accommodations.

You could also try for half or your time in a one bedroom at AKV, and keep part in the studio.

Since you are driving now, you could take a toaster oven with you, or a crockpot to use in the studios. You can also use the grills...toss on your favorite meat and serve with salad and some bread...we love doing this.

again thank you thank you for the replies both sweet and honest. What I feel really upset about is the way the MS rep treated me. He has sucked out my disney spirit right now. I have actually thought about canceling the trip. My husband thought OMG when I told him I felt that way and he knew that I was upset badly enough by the MS rep and that made him mad.

Issue is we still have accomidations if the wait list doesnt come thru. and as for trying some nights and waitlisting the rest...I have been trying that too but the nights arent all together for us to do that so I have to keep trying. unless we want to change rooms four times. So if it comes thru it does if it doesnt....but I dont think it is ok for MS to be so rude.

It seems every once in a while a CM just puts on his "villain" cloak and runs with that role, instead of his tiara and magic wand! Sorry you ran into this.

It will still be a fun trip! I often find that things shake up right at 30 days out, since folks have to cancel then or be stuck with the points in holding.

As with any given soul, on any given day, for any given job, sometimes the day (or week) is just a bad one. I'm not excusing the CM for treating you dismissively, but given the volume of calls each must handle over the course of day, much less a week or month, it's not too difficult to imagine getting the occasional ill-mannered employee. I've waitlisted quite a bit, and I've gotten a CM who is either not helpful, borderline rude, apathetic, or all the above. However, I don't take it personally, and I just figure that person isn't having a good day. Most often, I hang up and call back the next day and invariably get someone ready to help and answer questions.

I agree with those who say your odds of snagging a WL this close to your travel date, but obviously you're excited about the trip and prepared to enjoy yourself, regardless. Don't let one bad moment spoil your experience. Relax, have fun, and make do--those tend to be the most memorable vacations, anyway.

He was just telling the truth to you--like many on this thread have indicated it is unlikely for a 10-day waitlist to come through especially at this late date. Wouldn't you rather be told the truth than get your hopes up only to have them dashed when the waitlist does not come through?

My advice to you is to call daily--maybe even a couple of times a day--to check on availability. You might be surprised that some of your days may come up in a row as available and then as someone else mentioned you could do a split stay --so many days in the studio and so many days in the 1 bedroom.

I have had success with the waitlist in the past (and am hoping for one night to come through at GCV in September!)

Did you mention the DIS in your conversation?

Were you referring to the availability board to the CM or did someone post that you should have positive results waitlisting for 10 days?

I know we try to be more supportive and optimistic for each other here, but MS deals with availability constantly.

No excuse for rudeness and next time remain on the line and take the survey if you feel the need to comment on your service, good or bad.

I definitely would not cancel my trip over 1 bad experience. I need my vacations!!

I am not going to make additional comments on the MS-rep and if he is or isnt a debbie downer. Every person may not take things the same way but I have gotten a lot of great information here on the DIs. Some things that I may not have ever known about with out you guys. So I guess I take offense to someone telling me that taking information on a board from people we dont know doesnt make any sense. and that a lot of the information here is just plain wrong.
I didnt start this thread to discuss if my WL would come thru I was just upset at the way I a DVC member was treated and didnt like him Dising my DIS family.
I do appreciate the kind words and support. I did call back MS and talked to someone about my previous call. I feel better and hope the wait list does come thru but we will have fun either way.

I'm a realist and a downer for most people. They don't want the truth, but that's not who I am, maybe the MS Adviser is the same way.

Getting your waitlist filled is a numbers thing, you make a request and the software scans for an exact match. If your request is for a resort and room category that has a small inventory to begin with, your chances for success will be less. If you are requesting a resort that is real popular due to a event or time of year, your chances will be less. If you are requesting several days, mathematically, your chances will be less. Don't forget that matches are made first come first served. The earlier you make the request, the better your chances.
