MS merging reservations unintended consequences

Going to try to make this as simple as possible. Night 2 was booked at the 11 month window for VGF and thus Contract 2 was used. Nights 1 and 3 were added later at the 7 month window.

Night 1 Lake View: 32 points from Contract 1

Night 2 Standard View: 27 points from Contract 2

Night 3 Standard View: 23 points from Contract 1.

Members services said reservations 2 and 3 could be combined. I figured this would make it easier on magic bands etc. Lo and behold now Nights 2 and 3 are 50 points from Contract 2. Contract 2 is more valuable (VGF vs AKL) and since this was all done at 7 months or less, I would have liked to keep it as it originally which I listed above. No one ever said, "by merging, points totals will change contracts."

I emailed MS but I don't know what is going to happen especially since I used contract 2 at the 11 month window for December. So it would affect that reservation and use year too. Should've banked 43 into that UY for that reservation instead of only 20. It didn't click with me because I did that reservation on the phone. I routinely check points totals every so often and this is when I caught it. If we didn't just move in December-January I would have caught it within a day or two.

Ugh...

Just like you pick contracts when you book online, so does MS. You need to tell them what you want, which contracts. Contact them and request that they use the correct points and return the points to where you want them.

If you're outside of the 31 days before check in you should be able to call MS and talk to them about reallocating points. If you have different resorts and are booking at 7 months you do need to be specific or they'll just pick randomly. And you still could bank should you wish and then ask them to reallocate. This isn't something rare - they do it fairly frequently for me. ;) They only thing they shouldn't do is to use points from the non-home resort contract to replace that made at 11 months, unless the dates were still available at 7 months.

I've had this happen multiple times. MS will fix it for you. If the first CM says they can't, ask for a Supervisor. They can do it, I think they just don't like to :)

It does boggle my mind why MS changes the points when they fill a waitlist or merge reservations. For members with multiple contracts, point usage matters. It's like that thought never crosses their minds.

I have3 homes and when I combine I have to tell the cm right away that I not want to use a certain contract or home. Often I'm saving other home points for a future 11 month booking.

Once I had 2 reservations where I had used holding points for one. After requesting they be merged, MS used all regular current points and put the holding points back into my account. Phone call took care of it.

Well the first person kept talking about banked points. Which...should have been used up regardless of how night #3 was allocated. He did a lot of <43> 43 <43> type stuff on the account. In the end nothing changed though! Still had 54 Contract 1 and 0 Contract 2 to bank into UY2016. :( Hang up, call again! :)

So I call back and the person instantly seems to get what I am asking. Basically those 23 points should have always been from Contract 1 since it was booked within the 7 month window. She does everything on this reservation so it should match what I have in 1. 2. 3. above and even reworked the banked points on my december VGF contract so it uses the banked points that she just moved in from the reallocation. She got it.

I look at my points totals and they still are 54 total that were banked into UY16 which is correct, but somehow I have more points on contract 2 banked than I thought I would and less of Contract 1. At this point it was one heck of a messy 2015 Use Year...my 'Vacation Points Detail; online for the individual contracts for 2015 is mostly blank, though the combined one is correct. Again pointing towards a strange reallocation to say the least. I'll put it all into my excel spreadsheet soon and really see what happened...

There's no ease or lack of ease in terms of MBs for multiple reservations. You'll be offered the opportunity to customize them for each reservation. Do or don't do it. Doesn't matter. If you do it, pick different colors so you can match them to your outfits or whims for the day. If you don't, don't. All can be used interchangeably.

The only thing it might have made easier was not having to move IF for some reason they had you slated to move. But you can request that they take the second stay into account at checkin to the 2nd night (obviously with the different views they aren't going to connect them, unless you're willing to downgrade for the whole stay).

gosh I'm glad we have only one contract.

They should fix it I'm confident they will. I wonder if they transferred the points to the second contract, I'm assuming it's a completely separate master contract. Was contract 1 down by the corresponding points?
