MS - joining non-discounted cash rooms with points?

See this makes me a bit nervous. If they do automatically apply it, why would they tell you to call back?

I was looking for a Fri/Sat night discount rate, it wasn't available so I was holding out. If this is the case (automatically apply) I'll book it!

Book it, you can always cancel later if things don't work out.

Is there some kind of a FAQ or primer about the whole cash reservations/DVC discount thing?

I've done my fair share of DVC research and think I have a pretty good grasp on most of the concepts and discounts, but I'm still a bit vague on this aspect. From the questions, it sounds like I'm not the only one.

For example, the DVC primer at AllEarsNet says that you can get discounts on DVC rooms, but I could swear I've seen mention here of people getting discounts at some non-DVC resorts - so I'm not sure what the story is.

It's on my mind currently as for an upcoming trip, we have a one-bedroom for Dec 31st through Jan 9th, and I'm waitlisted for a studio on the 31st. The one-bedroom is 36 pts, and even a studio is 19... I'd be willing to move if I could get a cheap room that first night, including staying at Pop Century if a room could be had for cheap enough. I'm just trying to explore my options but I'm just not getting my head around the cash discount thing. It does sound like I'll be stuck in any case as the discount probably won't be available on such a busy night?

No DVC discount on non-DVC rooms. Lots of DVC members have the AP so they might get an AP discount.

Sorry if this has been mentioned -- I didn't have time to read the whole thread. Just wanted to warn you that I booked a trip at BCV using 25% discounted room for first night, then points for remaining. We never got mousekeeping on the day we were supposed to. I realized later it was because the systems didn't recognize our length of stay correctly because of the linking. Didn't matter much to us as we left the next day but FYI...

what was your total length of stay with the cash plus points nights?

It's hit or miss but it's likely you'll have to check out then back in again.

Very true, it really depends on how capable the staff at the check in desk is with the computer system. We have lucked out before and other times we had to move.

Hi, I have a 1 bedroom at BCV(last weekend in July) booked thru MS with the 25% member discount. The first two times I called the 1 bedroom was available BUT NO DISCOUNT! The CM told me to KEEP TRYING so I kept calling back and did get the discount! But I was NEVER told the discount would be applied automatically, if it became available ?? Sorry if this confuses you MORE ! Joan
