Yesterday my multicultural literature class visited Animal Kingdom for the day. Besides having a lot of fun, they were required to review at least one ride/ride building and one live show for evidences of culture and how that is represented in the ride/show. They were all required to see the Festival of the Lion King show as well as at least walk through the Expedition Everest ride building to experience the culture represented there. They may or may not choose those two attractions as the ones they review. Most of them are seniors, and though we are locals, many of them have never been to Animal Kingdom. Look for their postings here by Monday. They look forward to seeing who reads and responds! This year we had fewer students attending the field trip, so this was offered as an extra credit assignment; therefore, there may not be a lot of reviews.
For those of you traveling soon, I can tell you from a Florida local's perspective, it was VERY crowded in the park yesterday (3/17/10). I personally rode Everest twice in the single rider line and waited about 30 minutes each time in the morning, but later about 1 p.m., the single rider line wait was up to 45 minutes and the standby line 90 minutes. I waited in line for almost 20 minutes just to get a fastpass in the morning and ended up not being able to use it before I left, passing it along to a nice lady from Great Britain who was in the ice cream line in front of me. I had a nice cultural experience myself chatting with her. Anyway, thanks for any responses to my students. They are always amazed that people from around the world read and respond to their reviews and are baffled by the fact that people have countdowns to their Disney trips! Disney is kind of like the mall to them since they live here!
