MRI contrast trouble or UTI

First, I went to virtual urgent care thinking UTI and was given macrobid but the test results don't look like I would expect so now I am wondering about the MRI contrast or even a kidney stone I guess, there was only trace bacteria which doesn't match the symptoms

If you know of anyone who ever got blood a few days after MRI Contrast please share your experience, the reason it sticks out is the Drs always ask, why would they ask if a patient has kidney disease if the contrast is safe for kidneys?

Just had my annual brain MRI with contrast yesterday. My understanding has been that because the contrast contains heavy metals, they want to be sure your kidneys are functioning properly so they can remove them from the blood stream. They always remind me to drink extra fluids afterwards.

Mayo clinic website says this - Newer contrast agents that contain gadolinium are generally safe for people with kidney disease, even those who receive dialysis. But that might not be the case with older contrast agents. The type of gadolinium used in older contrast agents isn't safe for people with moderate or advanced chronic kidney disease.

I have had many MRI in the past, this never happened before and is a bit of a shock... not sure what to make of it and while Virtual Urgent Care is convenient and got me antibiotics right away the lack of follow up access is disconcerting, like there is no-one to ask

Depends on your kidney function level. A friend has sharply reduced kidney function due to cancer treatment, and they won't do MRIs with contrast on her.
I am recovering from a reduction in kidney function due to a reaction to a blood pressure medicine, but my function was never so low that they would not use contrast for an MRI. However, I get a mild allergic reaction to the contrast agent, so I have to take Benedril and Predisone before they use a contrast agent.

MRI contrast can cause nephrogenic systemic fibrosis in kidney patients. I have a family member who has this after an MRI and it's debilitating.

If you don't feel like you have a UTI, I'd follow up with your provider again.

Possible alternative --

Manganese-Based Contrast Agent Offers Safer, Non-Toxic Option for MRI Scans. As a nutrient the body needs and already processes well, manganese can be an effective alternative as a contrast agent for these scans.

So the trace bacteria made one Dr office nurse tell me I am fine, like whaaaa? I am going to see the Dr that removed my ovaries for BRCA2 to see what he things. Only thing I know for sure is this was not / is not fine
