MPEG for MacBook iMovie?

Hi guys! I'll be buying a MAC Book soon and am about to have my VHS home movie tapes converted to an editable format and put on DVD with the ultimate goal of editing down the 10 hours I have to an entertaining 2 hours or so!

My file extension choices are: MPEG, AVI or MOV?

So what's my best choice??? TIA!!!

not AVI. Either of the other 2 will work. Someone may know more about quality between the formats.

Do you plan on outputting them to a DVD after editing?

If you just plan on viewing them on computer,
IMO since you are just going to have VHS tapes transferred go with .mov
You can then use Imovie 09 to do editing
