Hi,
Thinking about buying an MP3 player and was wondering what others recommend I like the look of the Ipod but not sure if to go with the "standard" or the mini ( assuming I can find one !! ) Any ideas..?

Hi Mick,

Both DW and I are proud owners of iPod mini's :) and we both think that they are wonderful.

The iPod and iPod mini both contain small hard drives which enable them to store large amounts of data t reasonable cost for the device, whereas lots of the other digital music players on the market use memory as the method of storage which generally means you get less storage for the money. The up side of using memory is that it requires less power to run it and therefore the battery life tends to be longer. The iPod has had well documented issues with the lenghth of it's battery life.

For me, I like having lots of music to choose from to suit my mood without having to keep reconnecting to the computer and changing the playlist. This makes the iPod/iPod mini ideal. I also like to be able to carry the device around without really noticing which is why I went for the smaller mini.

iPod mini's also come in a variety of colours :teeth:

I have a 'regular' iPod - and have gotta just say that I love it :teeth:

I personally haven't had any battery issues (yet, touch wood!), but I believe that's been worked on anyhow with the later models so shouldn't be an issue now.

As both slip in to your pocket just as well I think it just boils down to 2 things...

Which style you prefer (and let's face it, when talking about Apple products so much of it is about style)

And how much music you own that you want to put on it!

Hi

I have an I-River. I basically didnt go for the I-pod because it didn't get very good reviews in comparison to the I-River. Its 40gb and has the most amazing sound. Ive currently got 933 songs on it and haven't even scratched the surface.
I would say whatever you buy you'll have fun with but it may be worth your while reading some reviews so you can get what suits your pocket etc. Mine wasn't cheap at £275 but worth every penny. you can also pick them up cheaper on E-bay.

There are so many different types out there now but because 'Apple' did amazing work with their advertising people don't tend to look at the alternatives.

Hope you have fun with whatever you buy

my kids have I-Pods (the minis weren't out yet when i bought themin December)....i bought them the medium sized ones (size in terms of the amount of memory) since that size came with many accessories included....
i also bought my daughter the connector so that she can play it on her car radio when she's driving...

since my son's computer has a firewire, recharging is very easy...

the two of them download songs from I-Tunes (you need an american credit card i think...unless this is available now in the UK too....) and then they upload to their ipods.....

great invention....

Apple's iTunes Music Store is now available for UK residents, so no need to use an American credit card to buy tracks (although I still prefer to buy the actual CD and rip it to my hard drive rather than download an inferior quality version over the internet).

We have an iPod and a mini iPod. Both are wonderful - I prefer to carry the full size iPod as I like having my entire music collection to choose from, but my GF prefers the small size of the mini so she tends to use that.

Regards

Rob
