Hi Sanela,

I assume you're movinG to Orlando, not movinD? LOL

(my boss hates that I do that, too)

Anyhow, I live in Orlando, and can tell you some things, if you'd like.

Good areas that I'm aware of (in order of price, quality):

1. Windermere
2. Dr. Phillips / Metro West / Bay Hill
3. Hunter's Creek

I live in Windermere (ain't rich, just got lucky), and love it. We don't have kids, but all my neighbors say their kids are in the best schools they've ever been in. A good friend of mine lives in Bay Hill, and her kids go to a school in the Dr. Phillips area, and I know she wouldn't let them go anywhere but the BEST of schools.

Other decent areas:

Winter Park, Casselberry, Maitland, Altamonte Springs, Heathrow, Lake Mary

Stay away from: Eatonville (and areas nearby)

As for weather: Hurricanes happen - but only one every few years has any effect on Orlando. By the time the storm gets here, it's just heavy rain and wind, and you might lose a tree branch or a few roof tiles. Nothing major. Tornadoes - they happen just about anywhere that there's thunderstorms, but not nearly as much here as in the midwest. Your chances of being affected by a tornado in Orlando are about the same as your chances of being struck by lightning at DisneyWorld. I wouldn't sweat it.

Anything else? Just ask....

My email address has changed, you can email me at: CLWilson34787@aol.com

Good luck on the move!

I also lived in the Orlando area and can highly recommend Apopka. It is an up and coming area with new subdivisions and wide open spaces. In fact, we just put our house on the market there. We moved to the Tampa area 8 years ago and my mother has been living in the Apopka house. She is moving out soon and we're selling it.

Can't tell you much about the public school system there, though, as our DD was in elementary school when we left and she went to a private, Christian school.

Although we like where we live now, we found the general population a bit on the younger side in the Orlando area. In the Tampa area, we tend to get a lot of the "snow birds" during the winter.

Another suburb of Orlando that's decent is Longwood.

Good luck!
