Hi Everyone,

I know this is a bit off topic, but we are looking for some help with the following:

1. If you are a Orlando/Florida local what areas would you recommend moving to and why?
2. If you are a Las Vegas local what areas would you recommend moving to and why?

It is myself, DH and DD (18).

Many thanks in advance.

It would depend on 1) where you are going to be working and 2) what your budget is. We built a home in Celebration but moved about a year later to the coast of FL. Celebration wasn't for me (but DH loved it), and I was pregnant and worried about the school system. Downtown Orlando traffic is pretty bad at times, so work location would sway me with regard to that (I4).

All that said, if budget were not a huge concern, I'd choose Winter Park hands-down. I loooove Winter Park. Lake Eola Historic District would be a close second though! Sadly, even if DH gets a job in Orlando, Winter Park will always be out of our price range:sad: Oops, I forgot the why part. Because Winter Park is beautiful! The streets are made of pavers even. Gosh it is gorgeous. My daughter was at camp in Winter Park last week and I'd drop her off and just drive around admiring the neighborhoods.

Well, Las Vegas is a large city and getting bigger everyday. It really depends on where you'll be working and how much of a commute you want. We like to live on the outer edges of town, out in what, when I was kid, was called horse country. We can get to Mt. Charleston quicker than we can get to downtown where we are. What you want is easy access to the 95 and 215. Lots of great neighborhoods/suburbs but it's hard to say what would be considered the best. My sister would never consider living where we do because it's so far out and I wouldn't consider where she lives because it's so far in and highly congested. However, her rent in significantly lower than mine. It's all trade offs.

Again it depends on where you will be working and how you feel about commutes, but most if my Vegas friends live in either Aliante, Centennial Hills, Summerlin, or Green Valley/Henderson. It was quite a shock to me to see people living in Henderson because when I was a kid that was the redneck area :-)

Aliante and Centennial Hills are both great if you are looking for newer construction, easy access to 215, and plan to work in the northern part of the city. Summerlin has both newer and old construction, it's a great part of town but pricy. Green Valley is nice but surrounded by not-so-nice parts of town.

When I was a kid, they called Henderson, "Hooterville." :rotfl2: Green Valley is a VERY nice area now but if you're working in Las Vegas, that's a realllllly long drive and would get old fast. This is from someone who lives practically on the edge of town. (out past Centennial) I lived near Aliante and while it's a great area, near the 215 it's takes forever to get to the 95 just to get somewhere. It's seven miles on the 215 to get to the 95 from Aliante and you're technically back tracking to do it. The next closest on ramp to the 95 is again, several miles to get to. I found myself taking Decatur, Jones or Rainbow rather than fighting my way to the 95. Some people don't mind but I was never so glad to get out of that area just because it took forever to get to get somewhere in order to actually get somewhere.

For Orlando, depends on where you're working.

If it's just where would I choose? Lake Ebola area, winter park, or Baldwin park-all on the easy side of town.

But if I were working near the attractions or on the west side of town-no way would I make that commute everyday. If that were the case I'd say dr. Phillips area

It also depends on how much you can spend on housing as it varies quite a bit area to area
