My DD is considering moving to London for a few years. She presently works and lives in New York City but in looking around links of flats, none of them tell me what's included, if anything. Typically-are utilities (electric-heating etc) in addition? We are planning an October trip to look around, meet with some agents etc but trying to be as informed as possible ahead of time.

THANK YOU! :)

Unless it states it's all inclusive I would expect to pay for Gas, Electricity, Water rates and Council tax on top of the rent.

Great to know!
Hopefully the realtors can give us an idea of what those might add up to be.

Appreciate it!

It doesn't matter whether you rent or buy, property just seems to eat money!

I hope you have a good trip in October and your daughter finds something suitable.

Yes, that's true of most properties ...unfortunately.

Thank you, I'm sure we will give it a valiant effort!

Hey, good luck with the search. I lived in London for a while so I have an idea of good/bad areas, prices etc. Give me a PM if you have questions.

A couple of tips. Firstly, very importantly, in UK the letting agents (aka realtors) don't work for the renter, they work for the landlord - and mostly for themselves. They are unregulated and can and will mislead you, and catch you out with hidden charges. Be careful and double-check anything they tell you, and read the contracts carefully.

A couple of good resources:

www.rightmove.co.uk - the UK's no.1 property site.
forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16&order=desc - a great user forum full of property experts to help explain how the UK system works. Do a quick search before asking a question, but people are very happy to help

Hope that's of help,

Claire
