There are many great places to live in Las Vegas, it depends on what you are looking for, how much you want to spend, and what kind of commute you are willing to put up with. Since moving here with my family from New York in 1989 I've lived in Summerlin, The Lakes, Spring Valley, Silverado Ranch, and Aliante. OF all those areas, I prefer Aliante. It is in North Las Vegas, which is it's own city, and has a very small town feel even though there is no real distance between it and Las Vegas. You can get a lot more home and land for your money. NLV has a bad reputation because of its past, but Aliante, along with other master-planned communities such as Eldorado and the soon to break ground The Villages at Tule Springs, are far from the area with the bad history. The thing I like best about my community is that everyone is so friendly and talks to their neighbors. In all the other parts of town I've lived in, people kept to themselves and would avoid contact. People in my community always wave, they've brought treats over at Christmas time, and they come to others if they have a question or notice something. I'm nestled between two parks that I walk my dogs to and there are plans to build a third that will be just two streets over. We also have our own locals casino The Aliante which has many restaurants, a spa, showrooms, and a movie theater. The locals discounts at the spa are great! The problem with my community is that it takes me 35 to 45 minutes to get to work in the middle of the city. I bought my first house here in 2011. I hated the location and the idea of living in NLV, but I loved the house and the area seemed safe. I lived there for 4 years when I sold and bought my current house, less than a mile from the last one, in 2015. It's a 2200 sq. ft. house in a gated community. We paid 250K. The exact same plan by the same builder in Providence in the northwest part of town was over 350K. With the 100K difference, I'll be putting in a pool. Also, there is a pig farm in NLV that can sometimes be smelled, but they have announced that they will be moving further out of town in the next couple years. News agencies have reported that their move will increase NLV property values as we will never have to smell the pigs again. Before building our first house, we lived in an apartment in Providence and we also really liked that area. It would be our second favorite. My third would be Southern Highlands, but that is only from visiting friends over there, I've never lived in that area.
