Moving To florida??

Your biggest issue is absolutely going to be getting permission to work. US academic institutions do not normally hire IT personnel who need H-1B's because most institutions set a limit on how many H-1B's they will sponsor, and they tend to prefer to use them for academic faculty. The exceptions are usually in a trailing spouse situation. (I have a cousin who got his that way; his wife is an academic.)

The most common path for younger UK immigrants to Florida is via the business ownership avenue. If you purchase a business here, you are allowed in to run it.

Its not a necessity that i work in education just thought it would be a more likely route. Probably not much chance of me buying a business, plus not sure that route will work with having a family, dw and dd wouldnt be too happy being left behind. The H1B seems the best route but like you said it will be the hardest part of the whole experience. Or an EB-2A visa if i did my masters. Nice to hear from someone who did manage to get visa, did your cousins try for long before getting lucky?

Thanks
David
