Hi,

I am still a little confused on how to do this so I hope someone can just clarify the process for me. I am presently trying to plan out our next vacations over the next two years but definately want to book a 2 br at end May 2010 for my DS college graduation so here's the question...

I will need 348 points (which I will have with banking) but if I book my home resort at SSR at the 11 month mark and try to move to either BWV or BCV at the 7 month mark,(my mom will be coming and would just love either of those two places), do I have to have an additional 348 points in the bank for them to make that ressie and cancel the other or can they just move it over if there is availabitily?

I am sure this is a simple question for all of you but I am still a little confused about some of the "points rules". Thanks again, as always, for all your help.

MS can't just move a reservation from one resort to another. They must cancel the original reservation and then make a new reservation at the other resort. They can do it in one of two ways: cancel the original reservation and then book the new reservation or book the new reservation first and then cancel the original reservation.

The usual way is to cancel first, freeing up the points used for that reservation so that they can be used to book the new reservation. There is a very small risk that during that brief time in between canceling the old reservation and booking the new one, another member could grab the dates you need at BCV/BWV and then when MS tries to get you back into SSR, that is gone as well. Given your trip is in May, it's unlikely there would be a problem getting you back into SSR.

The second way (book BWV/BCV first and then cancel SSR) is safer because it eliminates that very small risk that you will end up with nothing. You would need to have an extra 348 points on hand to do it since for a few minutes at least, you are holding both reservations. But again, since you are going in May I don't see any need to do it this way.

You can make the transfer without having additional points (assuming the new ressie doesn't require more points than you have). Of course, you will need to determine if all the days are available at BWV or BCV. You wouldn't want to reserve some of the days and be waitlisted for others, unless you're willing to do a split-stay (switching resorts)
