Moving res to WDW for $250 extra?!

I have an Alamo mini-van for $216 picking up Dec 15th at the airport. (Getting in very late the 14th...had planned on spending the first night at the airport Hyatt.) Then Disney told me the ground transport was complimentary, so we decided to stay on site. I called Alamo to move my pick up location from the airport to WDW. Now they say the rate is $463. I said forget it for now (until I get some friendly DISboard advice.)

What should I do? I suppose I could get a cab ride back to the airport to get the van...but is there a more logical solution than charging me $250 to move the van to WDW?

Personally I would stay at the Hyatt or somewhere near the airport the first night if it was going to cost that much more to pick up the van at WDW. Or just pick it up when you get there and then head for WDW....if you want the rental for your entire stay then the "complimetary" ground service becomes less "complimentary" all the time.

You might try booking on line again with WDW listed as your pick up site and using the codes/rates from www.mousesavers.com and see if it is any cheaper to rebook from scratch on line....sometimes it is, sometimes not, but worth a try.....if it is a better price then you can just cancel the old reservation and rebook.

I'm REALLY hoping I'm just not understanding you right, because otherwise this question makes no sense to me. WHy would you think you MUST take DME from the airport to your Disney resort? What good is free if it costs you money??? Unless I'm missing something here, it seems obvious you should skip DME, rent your minivan at MCO, and pay $216 to drive to your resort and have your minivan, versus pay $250 MORE to take DME and rent onsite, and THEN pay an additional fee for a cab ride to pick up the van??? What am I missing here??? I'm a HUGE proponent of DME, but I'd never pay $250 PLUS cab fare to use it!!!

If I've misunderstood your question, PLEASE set me straight!

I'm not following the logic either...pick up the van at MCO and drive yourself to wherever your staying.

Try making the reservation on line and select a different drop off point for the van. IE: pickup at the CC center and dropping it at the Dolphin.
Calling Alamo often costs WAY more than doing it yourself on the web.

If you're now staying on-site, why do you need the rental?
Save the $200 bucks and use Disney transport.

Fixed the problem myself.

(By the way, my logic in using DME was our late-night arrival with four very small children. I'd rather have them spending the first night on property so we didn't have to make another transfer the next morning. The only thing I left out of my original post is that I was DROPPING the idea of staying at the Hyatt if there was some way I could get my kids in bed on property late that first night...I was trying to type fast, as I was on hold with Alamo.)

I finally gave up on the call center and called the airport location itself. The desk manager said he would have no problem transferring the mini-van to the WDW location. SO now we can take DME into Disney from our late night flight, wake up in the morning and get our minivan on property.

The take home message is, don't take "no" for an answer from a call center. Talk to the actual location. The manager was surprisingly helpful
