I know that people have moved to Orlando for various reasons, including being addicted to WDW. Has anyone regretted the move, espeically if you are from the NE and have distinct seasons? I have looked into the area, Central Florida, and there is sooo much to do there with the beaches, the zoos, the nicer weather in the winter and of course, Disney. Do you miss the NE convenience of being close to big cities like DC, Baltimore, NY? Or, is it the best thing you have ever done. How about that heat in June, July and August. If anyone wants, you can send me a PM if you want. Thanks for any advice or wisdom sent my way.

LOL I'm in NE Ohio and want to move to central Florida also...seems like there is so much more to do for the kids and Family in General.

We finally got a pool to deal with our summer heat. And I am now just fine and dandy.

Been here since 1992..though we moved from New Orleans and before that South Carolina.

I love the "beach feel" nearly all day every day. Of course I live right across from the beach. ;).

we finally had a pool built a couple of years ago. I like spending time in it and driving to a pool was driving me nuts since their hours were limited (for where I had to go) and always coincided with the afternoon thunderstorm.

We do have seasons....BUT....it is more like June-September is summer

October-December is fall (with some cold days in December).

January-part of February is winter

last part of February to May is Spring.

Basically we have longer spring and summers as far as temp feels.

But the leaves do turn brown, they do fall of the trees.

An irrigated lawn will never have that brown dormant lawn look.

You can tell it is summer when the lawn MUST be mowed once a week or by the 8th day your lawn looks like a forest. In the winter--you can get away with every 2 weeks..MAYBE 3 weeks (depends).

So we have seasonal changes--just different kinds. :)

I will be living in DC for 2 months this summer. And while I will appreciate the metropolitan life--I will miss my easy laid back life in Florida. And I will be glad to get away from the traffic.

Was in Kansas City this last week with some frigid weather--one day warm, one day cold alternating all week long. Hated the interstate system (confusing going through the city). Was glad as always to return to my Florida :).

My DH and I are seriously considering moving to central fl from NJ in about 1 yr or so and I would also be interested in some imput from people who were originally from the NE. I would also love to hear about the school systems down there. I am a hugh(like everyone else here) disney buff and would even love to work there if our choice of house location worked out.

We have looked into Seminole county schools are they have a lot of 'A' rated schools. This is where we are thinking about going...1 hour from the beaches and 45 minutes from Disney. About 1 1/2 hours from Tampa.

Their website if extremely well put together for a public school system...you can even get most schools ratings as well as type in an address and get the feeder you belong to. I am finding it VERY helpful pinpointing areas we want to look at, as we have 3 kids and I feel good public schools really work.

Well we moved to Palm Beach County (about 2 hours away) from NY and one of the things on the "pro" side was WDW. We've been here about 14 months and love it. Yes it's hot in the summer but not unbearable.

We average 1 weekend trip every other month and have taken one long (1 week) trip this year.

Keep this thread going :) I'm from NE and my hubby and I will be moving to FL when my kids graduate from high school. (8 years) My son is already looking at the University of Florida for a college choice.

I have several family members already living there, but we would be looking at it in more of a retirement kind of way. We'd probably downsize a bit, and look near the coast. I also LOVE that beachy feel. In fact I just love the warm balmy breezes everytime I step off a plane in Florida. I'm sure there will be things that I won't like, and I'm sure I will miss my family terribly. But I hate the cold. HATE IT!! As I sit here typing I'm in sweatpants, thermal long sleeve, sweatshirt, slippers, under a blanket, with the dog curled up next to me. And I am still cold! My hubby and daughter have already complained tonight that they are sooo hot.

Give me high 80"s and HUMID and that makes me happy :sunny:

We moved from NY 3 years ago and love it!! The winters are amzing no more ice and snow. The summers are not bad at all. We know that it will be 92 every day and rain around 3. In NY the temp would go from 80 to 100 back down to 90 and keep changing. I think it was actually harder on your body. That being said we also have a wonderful pool that keeps us very comfy all summer long!

I told dh that if we ever win the lottery, we're moving to Celebration. :goodvibes

I would miss the change of seasons, though as I get older (am I really typing this?), winters seem to be colder and more miserable. Orlando seems like a good choice because it's not on the coast and hurricanes are frightening. Dh spent the first 10 years of his life in FL and would be happy to return there.

We already live without local family, so we wouldn't be cutting family ties by moving to FL.

That said, my dh is employed by our county, and the chances of us actually moving anywhere else are about the same as the chances of us hitting a $100 million jackpot. :teeth:

I'm from Ohio originally, and you couldn't pay me enough money to move back up north.

I live 2 hrs north of Orlando, up I-95 near St Augustine/Palm Coast. LOVE IT. I live 40 miles inland, close enough to the beach, far enough to not get a storm surge (that's what destroys homes usually during a hurricane.)

I also LOVE the laid back lifestyle. All you need are some flipflops and you are all set!

Where do you start if you wanna move?

I work from Home and my employer pretty much said i can live and work from any state that i want. My wife would need to get a job and we'd have to sell our house...my head is starting to hurt already ....too many things to think of.

My husband just recently retired and we are talking about a move out of NY. It's just sooooo expensive to live here and although I would miss my family dearly, I really hate the long winters and think they may eventually follow me down ;)!! My husband is very concerned about the price of flood insurance in Fla, though, and is actually thinking more Tennessee (can't get the AP discount there!!). The area of Fla is negotiable, but it has to be near great schools as I have little ones. Any advise?

Ya'll are crazy. I grew up in Orlando, moved away about 10 years ago & would NEVER move back. It's just too hot. Some days you'd walk outside & the heat would just take your breath away. I'd rush from my a/c house to my a/c car to my a/c office.

And not to mention, you won't be on a perpetual vacation. You'd have to do the same stuff you do now...go to work, shuttle kids to soccer practice, clean the bathroom. Sure, you'd be closer to WDW for spur-of-the-moment visits, but in reality the novelty of that would wear off.

We still visit FL at least twice a year because family is there, but nope, give me my North Georgia mountains any day. :thumbsup2 (Hey, after all, I'm not crazy...no way would I live in the great white north either!)

I DD9 and I moved here just about three years ago, (came for vacation three years ago this week, and fell in love with the area) from Phila PA area. I don't ever say never, but I have no plans at this time to move back up north. I hate the cold and winter, much more than the heat/humidity.

I know the summers are hot, but we have a pool. I work at home, so I don't have to leave the house unless I want to during the hot times. I can enjoy the pool on my lunch hour!! I do my errands, and come home and get in the pool. We've actually started using our pool already this year (it's not heated - so it's a bit cool - neighbors with heated pools don't use them as much as we do!)

I was not a WDW "fanatic" when we moved here. I just liked the area that I moved to, and was ready for a change in my life. We visit the parks very frequently from late Sept until May, and stay away June, July and August for the most part. I love being able to decide at 4pm that we want to go to Disney and be there within an hour for the evening!

I have no regrets, and although we miss family, they visit often!!!!

My DH and I have been on a countdown for 3 years with 9 more to go until we move to FL. We live in upstate NY and cannot wait to go! We own a condo in Fort Lauderdale and only feel at home in FL. I'm with you pixiedust, if I hit the lotto I might be your neighbor
