PLEASE HELP!

We are disgusted with Idaho and moving to Oregon. Ive been here 20 years and you wouldnt believe how much this place has changed and what's going on... I could cry or spit or flip my lid just thinking about it!

Ok. Now... we need to know details about a few different places in Oregon. I am asking several realtors, posting on forums, we even drove there to look around! Still, unanswered Q's. Or more accurate, conflicting info. (One says Portlands rains 121 inches. One says 46 inches. One says Eugene is much dryer than Portland, one says they are very similar in weather...)

Where do people go for FACTS about relocating? I swear, the relocation/moving/ over crowded issue is so ugly that nobody wants to tell you anything for fear that you will become one more body in their city.

I need help.
:sad1:

46 inches is more correct for the portland area. I think the 121 is for the costal range. I think Eugene is just about as wet as Portland. But Portland has the wicked east winds in the winter which are freezing cold. I lived in the Portland area though HS then moved about 50 miles north of Eugene. When I visit my parents i'm reminded why I hate the east winds. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info... hadnt heard about the winds. Cant have wind like that with horses.
Can I pick your brain about the Eugene area?
What are the pro's and con's... if you dont mind? We were looking around pleasant hill and Cottage grove.

THANK YOU

I know nothing about Oregon or Idaho, but I am curious. What has changed about Idaho that makes you want to leave?

Growth. Attitude. Pollution. Over-development. Traffic. Crime.

This certainly can't be true of all of Idaho????? I have several relatives in Idaho who still love it there.

I am also curious how Portland or Eugene would be any different? My father is from Portland and we have relatives there who can't believe the changes in the last 10 years. Eugene isn't much further behind in terms of growth, over-pricing and development.

I am from the West Coast and just moved East 2 years ago. I can't WAIT to move back West!

What is so bad our East, and where east? Curious.
Also, not true for all of Idaho Im sure. Im 5 miles out of Boise.. and there's more to it (the story). Community unrest I guess you could call it. Nobody likes the development, and city is pushing for more. It is a place full of hard feelings and I think it's getting to me. The air quality has been orange and red more days than not, its been over 100 degrees all month, and I think its all adding up to depression for me. You know, sometimes even though you hate the idea, you know all sign are pointing to a change. I finally accepted that its time to go, and it's hard. (This was where we planned on living forever. We wanted our grandkids to come back here for sunday dinners and holidays... etc.) I'm flat out whining now, sorry. :guilty:

PS: We are not looking IN those major cities... looking outside of them. My parents are elderly and need to be near-ish medical facilities. Doc told him the air here is killing him... literally. (Valley, so everything gets trapped)

we moved recently from california to washington, though we looked at several other states.

try a google search under the names of the different cities you are interested in. allot have their own websites with a link on relcoation. we were able to get information on job opportunities, school systems, crime rates, weather...the state likely has a website with similar but more detail info. on regions in the states.
i also went to one of the big bookstores (b & n or borders) and looked at 2 books (sorry don't remember the titles) one was on the best places to relocate with kids, one was on the best places for retirement. i had my list of must haves and looked to these to find commonalities (i've got med issues that my former doc said i had to make sure there were high quality med providers and hospitals near whereever we moved to).

when we narrowed it down i started contacting realtors and offices of city planning. i asked about growth trends and plans for the areas we narrowed down to.

just curious-have you given any consideration to the eastern part of washington? the area we moved to is working against overgrowth, there are lots of med services in both spokane and in the outlying communities-and there seems to be lots of 'horse people' (seems like every place i looked at in the country either had an existing barn and fenced in pasture or was set up for it).

Jumping in to hijack the thread for a brief moment. Where in Eastern WA are you? We are in the Tri-Cities.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Ill give you the air quality is brutal right now but I wouldnt want to leave the area. This isnt the way it normally is here as you well know Im sure.

We thought at one point about moving to Eugene for a job for DH. but the crime was much higher there than it is here and the schools arent as good.
