As I pack up our current house, I have been preparing a box of moving day supplies. This is stuff that will go with us - not on the moving truck. That way if we have to wait on the movers to arrive we'll have the basics. This is what I have so far - can anyone tell me if I have forgotten anything or if I have gone a little overboard? This is a brand new house if that makes any difference:

Paper towels
3 rolls of toilet paper
hand soap for each bathroom
hand towels for each bathroom
trash bags
box cutters
cups
gatorade (for movers mainly)
bottled water
stuff to line kitchen cabinets with
cleaners (glass cleaner, bathroom cleaner)
coffee maker
splenda
fake cream
paper and pen (I like to make lists :) )
door mat for front door

Anything else?

coffee cups?
paper plates?

also, DH usually makes a run for fresh donuts for us and the movers.

broom
dust pan
mop
mop bucket
Mr. Clean Magic sponges!
something to sleep on unless you know they'll put your beds together immediately
snacks

Most movers won't move all your aerosol cans and any flammable materials, so you may need to plan on taking those. Also, remember to take batteries out of any battery-operated devices.

The cups I bought are the large styrofoam ones that can be used for cold or hot drinks

Paper plates are a good idea

Depending on what time of day that we move, we'll get either donuts or some other snack things (maybe those little assorted bags of chips?).

We'll have all our cleaning stuff/pantry stuff with us since the movers wont store those items. So we wont have to search for those.

The type of move that we're doing shouldnt be too bad. We're only going a few miles but our stuff will be in storage for 2 weeks. The movers are local so there shouldnt be any issues with trucks breaking down or anything like that. And they'll bring a trailer - load our stuff - put our locks on it - park it for 2 weeks - then deliver it. So the chance of stuff disappearing is minimal.

Any other advice?

Your vacuum cleaner, plastic silverware, a couple changes of clothing for everyone, and anything else you may need right away because you can't find the box it is in. Two moves ago it was about 5 days before we found the boxes with our kitchen glasses in them.

About the shelf liner stuff, did you know they actually attract bugs, the adhesive for the liners that is.

The adhesive attracts bugs? Gross! Actually I got the new kind - its kind of rubbery and you just cut it and put it in place. No adhesive.

We should be okay on clothes. Since we're living with the inlaws for 2 weeks we'll have the clothes we need for that.

We'll probably still have the vacuum cleaner with us - we want to clean the old house as the movers empty it. You know - clean the bathrooms, vacuum, etc.

Thats a good point about silverware - plastic or otherwise. One move I packed everything so far in advance that I didnt have any plates to eat on. I used a piece of tin foil as a makeshift plate! Ha ha.

About not finding what box it's it:

They will take the dressers with all the stuff in the drawers. So put the stuff you need right away in the drawers - stuff like sheets and towels.....

The stickers that say "load last/unload first" actually worked for us as well.

The stickers for move first/last are a great idea. Im thinking all the bathroom and kitchen stuff should be first. That way my helpers can get started while they are unloading everything else.

a first aid kit and a lamp with some extra bulbs...although with summer and it being light later, it shouldn't be as big an issue.
