Do you enjoy watching these on your computer? The most I've ever watched is clips here and there - not sure I would enjoy watching an entire movie or television show on my lap top though..

There was an Oprah show on the other day that DD was watching - and it was interrupted by a local news break (politician on trial).. She never watches Oprah, but this was a show she saw advertised and was very interested in it.. I told her to go online and see if it was available in its entirety, but I don't know if she looked for it or not.. She's been having an issue with the speakers on her lap top recently and I imagine that would make it even less enjoyable..

I have heard of people doing this while traveling, but not routinely in their homes.. :santa:

I wouldn't watch a movie on my computer at home, that's what my home theater is for.

I have watched movies on my computer while waiting in an airport, and I supposed I'd consider watching one on my ipod touch to make a plane trip a bit less boring.

My hunch is that a lot of people who watch movies on a computer might be students or others with very small living quarters and don't have space for a tv and dvd player.

no......can't watch those things here....dial-up.
I would like to sometimes when I miss a favorite show....someday.

I had never grasped the appeal of watching on the computer until back in June when I fell and broke my wrist. For several days, all I could do was sit on the couch ensconced in pillows. I watched all kinds of stuff on the computer, because there was nothing on TV I wanted to watch. (That's when I got hooked on the Cake Boss and Ace of Cakes shows - watching episodes online). We do have a home theater, but it's in the (finished) basement, and DH didn't want me going up and down the stairs when I was home alone because I was so dopey from pain meds.

I've also caught up on episodes of shows I've missed. Things I wouldn't want to own, but I'd like to watch once so I can follow the story.

If I own the DVD of something, I'd rather watch on the big screen, but if I don't want to bother even renting it or if it's not available to rent, watching online is a great option. :thumbsup2

I go to bed early so I don't stay up for primetime shows and we don't have a DVR. I routinely watch Lost, House, and Flash Forward on the laptop.

I usually watch The Office on nbc.com from my laptop. We have a DVR but I just find it more convenient to be able to watch the show when I want (i.e. I'm too lazy to go downstairs ;) ) plus be able to watch the deleted scenes. The commercials keep getting longer and longer though (used to be 3 15 second ones, now it's 3-4 30-40 second ones) so I may just watch the DVR'ed one eventually. I've never watched a movie or show that's longer than 30 minutes though, that would be annoying. My laptop has a loudish fan and I'm not draining the battery (as even when it's plugged in it's still taking from the life of the battery). Also, my laptop (even at it's loudest setting) is not very loud so you can't sit very far away from it and I like to be comfy when watching a movie.

Wait! "Deleted scenes"? No commercials? That's only available if you have previously DVR'ed it - right? :confused3

Not on nbc.com (I'm sure this is the case on other big networks websites too). You can watch lots of older episodes (I believe they erase them after a couple of months) and all of the deleted scenes. Plus have a lot less commercials ( a couple of minutes total compared to the 10-15 minutes when watching it on TV) than the TV aired episodes. You just go to the website and click right on it, no prior planning needed and for free (no signing up or logging in required either which is nice) :).

I think she means the deleted scenes are only available online, but if you want to skip the commercials, you have to DVR it. (no skipping past those things watching online, although I just open another window and check email or something - or DIS! LOL!)

Are you serious??? I may just have to revise my opinion on this.. LOL.. Thanks for that info!! :santa:

We only watch shows online. We got rid of our satellite service a few months ago, so our only access to tv is through the computer. My kids watch some shows in their common room on the desktop computer in there. In our living room we just plug the laptop into the tv and use the tv as a big monitor.

We found that we were doing this even when we had the satellite because most shows I wanted to watch started at 8:00 (when DH and I put the kids to bed, so I would miss the first 15 minutes). It was just easier to find them online and watch when I had the time to see the whole episode.

We also watch a bunch of Netflix Watch Instantly movies.

That's what I meant :) I don't watch the commercials either .

I am :). You're welcome! Sometimes the deleted scenes are better than the episodes. :santa:

I don't really enjoy watching TV shows on my computer but sometimes I do anyway. It might be something I forgot to DVR or just a show I hadn't heard of before and they have the season that you can watch.

I ditch my tv providers long time ago. I have a broken laptop, screen fell off * grumbles acer cr*p* Now its hooked up to the tv and I watch what I want when I want. And new movies that aren't out in the theaters yet.:goodvibes
Its very easy to hook up . :thumbsup2

Well, well... I just may have to give this a try now..;) Too bad I need the cable company up at the lake to get anything even remotely decent for internet service.. I could probably find most everything I'd be interested in online!!

Thanks! :santa:

We would love to avail ourselves of online options. We could stream Netflix discs directly to our television through the Internet. The problem is that they don't support closed captions, which is a pretty nasty slap in the face given that my wife is hearing impaired.

(Hulu's is the only significant online streaming source that has software that supports closed captions, but the vast majority of the content that they have, and practically off the new dramas that they serve, are not closed captioned.)
