My niece wants to go to Greece for her honeymoon in August. I thought it might be fun to give her a little collection of movies that take place in Greece. So far I got ~ 1. sisierhood of traveling pants 2. Mammia Mia 3. My life in ruins. Any other suggestions??

Disney classic with Haley Mills, The Moon Spinners.

Oh and BBC mini series based on book, My family and other Animals.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Also, it does not take place in Greece, but "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" has a lot of greek culture, music etc. Plus it is about a wedding, which she may relate to!

My Life in Ruins...It has a lot of Greece shots and is a very sweet movie!...Oops! Just noticed you already had that one!

Thanks for the suggestions ;) I thought of the Disney version of Hercules as a joke

If you are going to be silly you have to include Clash of the Titans (the 1980s version ).

I'd really like movies that show the beauty of Greece so she can get psyched for her trip.

Summer lovers was the movie that made me want to go to Greece as a teen. It is not for the prudish though so I don't know if you would want to give it to your niece.

Is she heading to Santorini?? I loved it there!

Oh and not in Greece but Greek themed and oh so funny My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

There was a movie with Darryl Hannah, "Summer Lovers"?

That was the first one that popped into my head too (also had Peter Gallagher :lovestruc) but depending on your nieces age, it might be inappropriate.

We have visited Rhodes, Santorini and Athens and I would LOVE to go back one day. Lovely country!!

Shirley Valentine

British comedy about a housewife who gets fed up with her husband and life and goes on holiday with her friend to Greece and decides she's staying. Excellent movie.

There was a Molly Ringwald movie in the early 80's called, Tempest. After seeing that, I wanted to go to Greece.

The Tempest-on location on a Greek Island. Directed by Paul Mazursky.
The actors were John Cassavetes, Gena Rowlands, Susan Sarandon, Raul Julia and Molly Ringwald in her very young debut. It was a very loose adaptation of Shakespeare's play of the same name. One of my fav old films and the scenery is marvelous.

There's the old classic Zorba the Greek. I think that there was a James Bond movie set in Greece too?

This is for her niece's honeymoon - I'm pretty sure they will be doing plenty of "inappropriate" things anyway... ;) :rolleyes1

Troy is partly set in Greece...
