How old are the movies shown on the Magic? If a new Disney movie comes out in Oct we shouldnt see it if we are planning on seeing it on Nov 30th cruise?

The movies are not very old at all, they're quite recent. I think once in awhile, they have a non-Disney movie available too.

They often have 'PremEars' which are when they have a new movie that is being released and they show it on the ships first.

On our cruise in January, there were at least 4 or 5 movies that my DW and I wanted to see, 2 we had to 'make time to see' by squeezing them in at late night showings.

So Yes, I'd say don't go to see it in a theatre, it'll be shown on board. You might ask recent cruisers what was shown on their cruise about 3 or 4 weeks before your cruise to be sure though.

hope that helps

Hi there. We were on the Magic on 4/27, and it was the best cruise. The movies were as follows:

In Buena Vista Theater:
Snow Dogs
Return to Neverland
Tomb Raider
Harry Potter
Count of Monte Cristo
Monster, Inc
Big Trouble
The Rookie
Walt Disney: The Man/The Myth

On the tv in the room:
Riding in Cars with Boys
Oceans Eleven
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Kate and Leopold
Spy Game
K-Pax
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Pinnochio
Toy Story 2
Cinderella
Tarzan
Hercules

Hope this helps.

Click here for a scanned images of the movie schedule form the March 23, 2002, Disney Magic cruise. This will give you an idea of how old the movies are, and how often they're shown.

If a new Disney-branded movie comes out in October -- such as Tuck Everlasting (scheduled release Date: October 11th, 2002) -- it's very likely you'll have a chance to see it on the November 30 cruise.

There are several movies that we had hoped to see on the March 23 cruise. They were showing them -- but not at times when we were weren't doing something else.

Thanks - I didnt realize there were so many movies showing and at so many different times
DS loves his movies. This is an alternative to the Lab for us.

We are doing the western on Dec. 7th 2002, harry potter's sequel is coming out in Nov. does anyone know if we will have a chance to see it on board? (I'd rather skip the lines at the theature this year:D ) Ann

Generally the theater shows new-release Disney movies and older-release movies from other companies. Harry Potter is not a Disney film so I'm guessing it won't be playing onboard. I know that the first Harry Potter did not appear on the DIsney ships until several months after its release.

The chance that you'll see Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is similar to the chance of winning the lottery. In other words, there is a chance, but it's a very slim chance.

The first Potter movie came out in November 2001. It wasn't yet showing on the ship in March 2002.

It seems that non-Disney movies aren't shown on the Disney Magic until around the time they come come out on VHS and DVD.

On the Dec. 7 cruise, you might enjoy Tuck Everlasting, Santa Clause 2, and Treasure Planet.

Harry Potter I was definitely showing onboard prior to its release on video. I've been seeing in in movie lists since March or April, and it's not being released on video until the last week of this month!

Yes, DCL was showing Harry Potter prior to its release on video -- but not until "around the time" of the video release. In the case of young Mr. Potter, DCL showed the movie in April prior to the May video release.

Harry Potter wasn't shown on the 3/23/02-3/30/02 cruise. The non-Walt Disney Company movies in the Buena Vista Theatre were Cats & Dogs (on video 10/16/01) and Tomb Raider (on video 10/31/01). It's been a long time since these movies were in first run theaters.

Based on the post from joellen2, Harry Potter was shown on the 4/27/02 cruise, so DCL started showing it some time in April (possibly as early as the 3/30/02 cruise). The video release of Harry Potter will be 5/28/02.

Passengers on upcoming Disney cruises are likely to be disappointed if they expect non-Disney movies shortly after their first run theatrical releases -- or if they expect a large selection of non-Disney movies in the Buena Vista Theatre.

I figured I was dreaming about Harry2 but these may interest my son. Last Dec. he had already seen the movies showing on board. Any idea how close to the cruise I would be able to know what is definately playing? I don't want to make the same mistake of taking him to one in the theature and then having it on the ship., Ann
