This will be our first time staying onsite. DH and I were wondering if there are Disney movies on any of the channels in the resort tvs? We were also wondering if it is possible to rent DVD players.

We'll be staying at VWL and POR.

TIA

Just wanted to add that we wouldn't be holing up with DVD's in the room. We were just thinking it might be fun for late night activities since we'll be going at a time of the year when the parks close early. :)

TIA!

I don't think they offer DVD players or movies in the rooms. I took my portable DVD with me and plugged it up to the tv. Also took my own movies. It was a nice way to relax after a great day on the parks.

Thanks. Does anyone know if they have any special Disney channels? Something maybe that shows Disney movies? If not, we'll just pick up a cheapy DVD player and take our own. Nothing like riding Pirates the next day after seeing Pirates!

The DVC resorts all have DVD players and free DVD rentals. Of course the choice of DVDs is limited so you may want to bring a fav or buy a new one to watch at WDW.

I stayed in a 1 bedroom at VWL last month and they only had a video player (not even a recorder), no DVD. Our BWV 1 bedroom last December had a combo VCR/DVD. Our OKW 1 bedroom last May had a DVD player. DVC studios do not have VCR's or DVD players.

You'll definitely need to bring your own DVD player with you, along with an adaptor since some of the resorts have the older TV sets that lack the red, yellow, and white connections that DVD players require. You can get the adaptors for about $40 (I can be wrong on the price b/c it's been awhile since we bought ours) at RadioShack. We always bring our own movies and a DVD player, or VCR, with us to WDW for our insomniac nights! :)

If you are staying in a DVC studio, you won't have a DVD or VCR/VCP.

They do have the Disney channel on, plus a story telling channel for little kids.

That's about right. We bought one a few months ago at Target and that was what we paid for it.

I see posts like this from time to time. The reality is, after a few days of stomping all over "The world", the DVD player sounds better and better. Heh, after a round of "drinking around the world" at Epcot, I may find myself inclined to do the same. May I suggest that you simply buy one and bring it? You can get a good player for $45 that handles all sorts of formats. It'd be cheaper than renting.

I don't know if you are a DVC member or not, but if you are, the rental is free. You have to show that magical "DVC Member" card!

I hope that VWL will get DVD players soon. If you are not going for a while, you may want to ask this question again, closer to when you leave. Oh, they do NOT have Pirates of the Caribbean, if you can believe that. :guilty:

I hope you love VWL and POR as much as we do.

We're not DVC members. :( (I suspect we will be one day!) But we will be staying in a 2 bedroom with rented points. We are staying in a 2 bedroom. I read a few conflicting posts, so just to make sure I'm clear:

VWL does have DVD players to rent? They are NOT in the rooms already, correct?

We have amassed a great Disney movie collection, so no probs. there. Thanks!

The DVC resorts started out with VCRs in the living rooms of the villas (studios don't have living rooms, so no VCR). As DVDs got more popular, the installed them in the newer resorts and replaced some of the aging VCRs in the older units. So you might have a VCR or a DVD. It just depends. But there should be somewhere at the resort where you can rent the movies, whether they are DVDs or VHS. Usually at the Community Hall or the Store if no Community Hall.

Never did the DVD player in our rooms but to answer your question about the movies the answer is yes, you do get the Disney Channel and you won't have a problem seeing "the mouse" on TV whenever you want to! Have fun! :earsboy:

It is strange that Disney doesn't have any dedicated movie channels for kids or adults in the resorts. They have several on board their cruise ships. It'd be a nice addition. :)

They don't want you staying in the room. They want you out and spending. On the cruise ships, you are a captive audience. Unless you go drinking, they can't get any more money from you.

So true, so true! :rotfl:

I stayed in a 1bdrm VWL and a 1 br BCV and I'm sure both had DVD players. Call Member services for DVC and check for sure.

They don't want you staying in your room when you could be out spending mucho dinero. Just business...
