I remember a thread about this for girls, but I'm looking for suggestions for for movies to rent/buy for boys.

My DS's 6 & 9 are in that hard movie stage....out of most G but too young for most PG-13 movies. A lot of the older rated PG movies really should be a PG-13 if they were released today (hello Jaws!!) so it's hard to just grab an older PG movie without someone seeing it first. I'm fine w/language--they know they aren't allowed to say them, but violence or sex is a no-go.

We found Little Giants and The Sandlot----both were HUGE hits at our house. Anything similar??

thanks

there are lots of sports movies like Angels in the Outfield, The Rookie, Facing the Giants, ohh--can't think of the ice hockey team that there are several movies of--, Bad News Bears

My DS8 loves Narnia movies and Star Wars are his favorites!

second hand lions, rudy. Mine like all of the star wars movies and men in black. They also like dodgeball. Ghostbusters. Corky Romano, but this might be a bit risque, a lot of double entendres.

I don't know what Stand By Me is rated... but I know they swear and do other things... but once they are of age, they should see it. :thumbsup2

I think the ice hockey movies they are talking about is Mighty Ducks!! And if they liked the sandlot there are 2 or 3 sequels....

Here are some my 8 year old son loves:
The ones he's watched the most, over and over and over are:
All the Star Wars(they are violent though)
All the Indiana Jones (again with the violence)

Other ones he likes a lot are all the Spiderman, Batman, and IronMan movies National Treasure 1 and 2(violence violenve violence:rolleyes1-whoops! )

Hmm somes less violent ones..
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Aliens in the Attic(cartoon-y type violence in this one)
Harry Potter
Pirates of the Caribbean..but I guess that's violent too..

I think I better keep an eye on this thread to get some less violent movie ideas for my son. LOL!!

Yes!!!! Mighty Ducks is it!

I agree with National Treasures too! Those are favorites at our house!

ETA: Evan Almighty is a great one!

The original Love Bug movie, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, maybe Jumanji (?), Flubber (the newer one and the original), the original Escape from Witch Mountain, Night at the Museum

Stand by me is rated R. Hard to believe so I checked.

As for our boys everything listed above and the Madagascar movies. I know they are animated but they really are funny.

DS (6) likes the Star Wars movies (though I would rather he watch the original trilogy, since it is less violent). He also likes most Disney films, as well as Pixar. Kung Fu Panda was a bit hit at our house, and I would let him watch the first couple of Ice Age films, probably Shrek (since most of the more adult jokes will go right over his head), Madagascar, Titan AE, and other non-Disney animated stuff, provided it is PG. He hasn't seen the Princess Bride yet, but he is old enough for it, IMO.

Man of the House with Johnathon Taylor Thomas along with the others mentioned

great thread w/some great ideas! They already love the old Star Wars, but are growing out of them already :( and Indy is fun too.

Mighty Ducks!! Totally forgot about that one....and isn't there two?? Thanks!

what about those old disney movies with the monkey in them? monkey's uncle? I forget. Kurt Russell did a lot of them too. Goofy and light-hearted, didn't have to worry about violence, language or sex.

DH would say that no one can outgrow Star Wars:lmao:

I agree entirely. :thumbsup2 (I noticed the other day that I have something like 4 copies of the original trilogy - 2 on tape, 2 on DVD). Plus the second trilogy. Plus a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special.

DS should be getting into Indiana Jones fairly soon, and I forgot that he has watched (and enjoyed) the first couple of the Harry Potter movies.

My nine-year-old loves all of the Air Bud movies. There is one for about every sport you can imagine.

Star Wars -all
Cheaper by the Dozen
The Pacifier
Garfield Movie

Space Balls- not sure rating
