I liked this movie. I thought it had a good pace to it and even though it was 2 1/2 hrs long it didn't seem like it.

I couldn't stop laughing at Mike Myers. I know he was trying to be serious but I just kept hearing one of his cheesy characters from the Austin Powers movies.

I kept thinking of his Fat "Basterd" character from the second one this entire movie. I did like it though. :thumbsup2

Side note: They're apparently working on a new Austin Powers movie.

We gave this movie thumbs down. I didn't realize Tarantino directed it when we ordered it from Netflix.
Not fans of Tarantino.

We love Tarantino in our household. Pulp Fiction is so quoteable! We also liked IB too. It really didn't seem long, you are right!

We liked it too. My least fav part? Mike Myers. I could not focus on anything else while he was on the screen, not a great choice imho.

I love pulp fiction, but I really cannot stand any other Tarantino. Two thumbs way down on IB.

Yes a very unusual selection.

I actually disliked this film quite a bit when I saw it in theaters. I thought it dragged for much of its running time and I felt it was simply Tarantino simply copying Tarantino. The long scenes of dialogue seemed to go nowehere. I really didn't care for it much at all.

However, I rented it again on dvd and found it to be quite engaging. In fact, out of the 200 movies I saw that were released last year (yes, way too many), it ended up cracking my top twenty.

I thought Brad Pitt was really great (which shocked me because I'm not sure I've ever seen him in anything else I've liked) and should've been nominated for an Oscar. Christoph Waltz deserved his Oscar (but I think he was really the main character and should've been nominated for Best Actor, not Supporting). And Melanie Laurent was winning as the French theater owner.

Anyway (shameless plug), my full thoughts can be found on my movie blog via the link below, but, in a nutshell, if you didn't like it, give it a second chance in nine months and maybe it'll be your cup of tea then.

This is how I feel. I couldn't put myself through it again for a second viewing though. I felt decieved as a movie goer in that the previews made it look action packed and mostly centered on brad pitt when he was in maybe 1/5 of the movie (and thats being generous). I didn't walk into it expecting 2 hours of pointless pointless dialogue with maybe 30 minutes of interesting content.

I don't know if maybe it's because I knew what was coming or I knew how long each scene was going to be, but, like I said, I found it infinitely more enjoyable the second time around.

Your mention of Pitt not being in it much made me question why the film was called "Inglourious Basterds" in the first place. Like I said above, I really thought that Christoph Waltz should've been nominated for Best Actor as opposed to Supporting because I really genuinely believe that the movie is about him. The movie opens with him and closes with him. The "basterds" are just a group of guys (rightly) attacking what Waltz's character stands for.

I know it was a remake of another movie, but is the other movie anything like Tarantino's version? I feel like Taratino wanted to make another passe attempt at an "artistic" "indie" film and knew that those don't make box office hits so he hyped it up with Pitt in all the previews and blood and gore and then when the movie goers were in front of the screen, he showed them something completely different.

Its not that I don't like foreign movies, one of my favorites is Les Yeux Sans Visage. And I don't mind a lot of seemingly unrelated talking, I enjoyed Pulp Fiction like I said. I enjoy an action packed blood and guts just as well as I can enjoy an artistic film.

However, I felt deceived. Taratino knew exactly what he was doing by filling the previews with the whole four scenes that Pitt was in.

Well I see that it is coming up on one of the movie channels, so this time it would not take up a Netflix space, so I might give it another try.

I must admit that I ended up leaving the room after 1 hour. But my husband, who has the same opinion usually as me about movies (except for a few that we disagree about), felt it was a terrible movie.

I really love odd, quirky movies (like Men Who Stare at Goats :lmao:), but GB was so dang violent! :hippie:
But I will give it another chance.;)

I didn't think it was THAT violent.

Either I am overly sensitive or you have been desensitized. :goodvibes

I will give you that the violence that was shown was rather graphic (i.e. the scalpings) but the overall level or content of violence was low.

You really need to explain this logic to me. I'm not being snarky, I promise, just curious.:confused3:)

As a percentage of the total length of the movie, the amount of violence shown was very minimal (in my opinion). So in describing the movie I wouldn't say it was a violent movie.
