We are thinkng about trying the Sci Fi Dine in, but I was wondering about the movie clips they show. Are the clips scary in any regard? I'm wondering how my DD5 would do with a meal here.

I thought they were silly scary. My ds6 was scared:confused3 . I looked around and it appeared that he was the only child in there that was not having a good time. I did not think that this was even an issue. I was really shocked. When we talk about going back to Disney that is the one thing that he says he does not want to do. He hated the long drive and eating in the cars:confused3 .

D'OH! I just booked this for our first meal at WDW!! Now I may have to rethink things...thank you for the warning!

We took our 4.5-year-old there in September. I did not even think of the fact that some clips might be scary for her until we got there. But she did not mind at all or make any remark about it.

The monsters shown are all funny-looking monsters from the fifties. They also show a Tom and Jerry short and my daughter thought it was very funny.

My girls barely noticed them. They tend to get scared pretty easily, my younger was afraid of every villian all week long, but they didn't blink over the movies at sci-fi. They are old ones and they were all black and white(that I noticed). The girls didn't pay much attention to them, just enjoyed the car table and their little activity page and crayons the server gave them. They did get excited when there was a short Tom and Jerry clip.

we were there this past august and my nephews (11, 10), my niece (6), and DD(5), loved the movie clips. The monsters were from the 50's and it was neat to see how much things have evolved since. The food on the other hand......well just get the ribs...LOL

We've been going there since my youngest was crawling (He's 8 now) and he has never been scared of the monsters at the sci-fi. Scared of everything else but never those.

Don't worry. There are hardly any movie clips anymore. It's mostly old ads for the concession stand and a cartoon. :sad2:

My DD7 who can be a scaredy-cat was not bothered by them. I was surprised. When I mentioned I didn't like them, she brought up the Tom and Jerry and the other cat one. I had to admit those were fine, but the rest of the clips I was not thrilled with. Just not pleasant dinner entertainment to me, but I guess if it was something else, it couldn't be "Sci-Fi".

So I could see some kids having a problem with them, but I guess you won't know about yours till you try! My kids thought it was cool to sit in the dark in the cars, but that was not enough for me to override the unpleasant films and bleh food. We won't be going back.

My kids were 3 and 7 when we went and no problem at all - like pp said - the monsters are so fake looking that they're really not scary.

Here's a list of the trailers...

The Horror of Party Beach
The Giant Gila Monster
Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Invasion of the Saucer Men
Robot Monster
Missile to the Moon
Devil Girl from Mars
It Conquered the World
Attack of the 50-Foot Woman
The Amazing Colossal Man

Among those are ads for the concession stand at the drive in and clips from "home of the future" films from the 50s.

Yes, my DD9 was very scared - she tends to be a very scared little girl. There were several scenes that had her hiding her eyes and when they came around to repeating, she asked to leave. There was a little girl in a car next to us who was having the same problem and she was crying. We left early. She now says that she never wants to go back to the Sci-Fi Theather again.

My very tough dd9 is STILL not crazy about the scene when they jab the giant man and then he throws the needle! We know when it is coming tho and that is when we head off to the bathroom.

We like the videos but are currently taking a break from eating there as we had been going every trip.

My kids have eaten here since they were 3, 5 and 8. And they love it. When they were little, they thought it was so cool to eat in the cars ! Food is nothing to rave about, but it's decent. We go for the themeing.

My family including DS5 ate there in September. He loved it!!! He was not scared at all by the clips and he doesn't watch a lot of scary things on TV. As a mom, this was the most calm and relaxing meal we ate all week. DS was so involved with the movie clips that we never had to ask him to calm down, sit down, etc. My food was not great but my other family members all ordered ribs and said they were very good.

My DD 4 (at the time) was freaked out. She wanted to hang out in the bathroom. My DH ended up taking her outside and I got their food packed up.

I thought they were harmless and fun. I had NO idea that she'd be freaked out. My DS 2 did fine and he & I sat there and enjoyed our lunch.

I think it is just how individual kids react to it. You can't expect it, but you have to respect it. :goodvibes

wow....learn something new every day. I am very sorry for the children who got so scared.
We've eaten there at least 6 times since the kids were little. Not only did my kids not get scared (they actually looked forward to it), but we never witnessed any other children getting scared either. Posts like the one from hmillerbarilla made me see a different viewpoint that I've never seen/witnessed before. Guess it is something to consider for some.

Same thing happened to my son- he kept his face hidden the entire time. There was one clip with a needle and an eyeball- and he still talks about it. We aren't planning on going back for a while!;)
