Move over, iced latte . . . it's BUBBLE TEA!!!!

Oh my goodness, Deb! You need to come out to either of the coasts more often! I'm half-expecting them to carry bubble teas at the local McDonald's.;) (maybe not quite yet.;))

My faves are Taro and Red Bean. I've never tried lychee or anything 'fruity'.

I think another Diser , swankybeth, mentioned that WDW had them but I don't think they took off. They just had strawberry and maybe a couple of other flavors...and NO BIG STRAWS. Huh?

:)

Threre is a storefront near me that sells bubble tea. I've been tempted to go in quite often.

Sounds good!

<font color=navy>Over here in the LA area, at least in the South Bay, they call them Boba Teas or Boba Smoothies ... they've popped up all over the place.

My dd & her friends love them. I haven't tried them yet. (Shoot, I just had my first mocha frappuccino @ Starbucks, so I'm behind the times. :) )

I've had them in a Thai restaurant and a noodle shop here. They are OK. Mostly just fun!

I love bubble tea but we don't have anywhere around here that sells it. I had my first one in Hong Kong 4 years ago and practically lived on them during our 2 weeks there. I did have one in Epcot last May and it was good but not great. It did come with long spoon straw.

That's the first I've heard of them. Do they have sugar in the mix or do you add it yourself?

The ones I've had have been sweetened.

Seems like this is a trend that is heading from the West to the East . . . so those of you on the East Coast, you can be the FIRST for this new fad!!!

I've never heard of them. Do the tapioca balls have a flavor to them, or do they just supply the bubbles to the drink?

These have been popular in Hawaii for many years now. My husband likes the coffee drinks with the tapioca balls. They don't have a real taste to them.

We have tons of bubble tea (or Boba) places in L.A. I like the chai tea, taro, & strawberry milk. There's a place out here called Tapioca Express (I think its a franchise) that has 100 different types of drinks there. MMmm.

I grew up drinking bubble tea - love the tapioca balls. I could eat tapioca balls by the glassful. Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere near that I can get good bubble tea.

I love bubble tea! The first time I had this was at Epcot, China fast food, last year and it was so refreshing. I think I tried Lychee. We just had it again this past May and we tried chocolate and I did not like it as much and I am a chocolate freak.

You could always buy those pack sets and make your own, we did that before.

I like my boba balls ever so slightly sweetened. And not too smushy. But definitely cooked through. ::yes::

I've found, on the average, you can pop in anywhere on the West Coast and get a good boba...on the East Coast, a little more hit-or-miss.

I was working on set one day when craft services brought one over, it took drinking the entire thing to figure out what I was drinking, ahaha I finally asked someone else and they said the balls were made of tapioca. Very different kind of drink but it was kind of good.
