MouseSavers Compares MYW Dining Pkg. vs. Do It Yourself.

I don't know if anyone else posted this link, but Mary recently added this page to the MouseSavers.com website. I found it to be a pretty interesting comparison between planning a vacation with a MYW package including dining vs. getting an AP and doing all the parts yourself. What a great job! I also noticed that the person going a la carte with the AP could have gotten a bit more savings by purchasing the DDE card.

Mary also stated at the bottom that she didn't apply any possible AP discounts for dining. So if you had the AP and the DDE your cost would be lowered.

The numbers indicate that an AP w/o a pkg that includes dining can save you money. However, when I did all the calculations (resort, passes, meals), with a AAA discount, a pkg. with dining included was our best choice. And, I also like having the entire trip paid for in advance. We will do our homework and choose our restaurants carefully to get the most from the plan.
Mousesavers does an EXCELLENT job and I've saved a lot of $ with Mary's sound advice.

For us the plan (thru AAA) was worth it. I think that the analysis while helpful should also be done without any AP discounts factored into the non-dining plan (to put everything on an equal level.) As many people here have said, AP discounts aren't always easy to come by. Or if you want to factor an AP room rate into it then also factor in a AAA rate into the dining plan scenario.
