Well, what does everyone think about the section concerning pointing more towards packages in the future versus room only and the comment about AP being last minute discounts?

Has anyone stayed at the Caribe Royale? How is it? How big of a hassle is it to stay offsite during value season (9/8/03-9/13/03)?

I read it, and I am very discouraged! I look forward to those codes every trip. We like cheap!! However, we also know that we may have to pay the rack rate. My biggest problem is the whole package thing. I don't want a package. Mary made a very good point about the people who are paying to be in WDW, but decide to spend the day in Universal. When we go to Florida, we do only Disney, but never the first and last day. Those are relaxing and organizing days. I don't want to have to pay for those days on a ticket. For the people who go elsewhere like Universal, it is really bad news for them. It's expensive enough to pay for one day, but to pay for a day and then not use it, is just stupid. I think what Disney is doing is chasing people away to off site resorts. I honestly hope it doesn't come to packages only. That would stop my trips.

I agree with Madi100. I don't want UPH passes when staying 8 nights in Disney. I like to use some of my days at Downtown Disney or checking out the different resorts and even just relaxing at my resort. I would rather have the option to use a regular hopper pass for the days I wanted to go to the theme parks. I have an AP now and my last trip on a day we were supposed to go to the Magic Kingdom, we decided to head over to Fort Wilderness to relax in the rocking chairs and go to the petting zoo. We don't go to the water parks when we are there usually, and have never been to DisneyQuest. I am sure this would be great for people who do all this, but it wouldn't cost effective for me at all. Maybe they will keep on doing things the way they are now!!:)

I agree....I got a special on PHP's last year and so I bought some 7 day PHP's that had 2 pluses on each ticket that we haven't used. Since we go to WDW just about every year, we don't go to the parks as much as we did when we first started going, now we do 2 parks in a day and only use 1 day on the pass, and then the rest of the trip we enjoy the resort or shopping at DTD, there isn't that urgency to tour the parks anymore because we go so often. So now I have days left on my passes, which never expire, and would not need a package that includes tickets. I am sure there are alot of people that do not need the tickets, and so a package would be a waste of money for them. Some years we had AP's and so wouldn't have needed a package then either. It's discrimination to leave out those of that do not need the tickets. I have never paid rack rate and I have never purchased a package, I have always gotten a great deal and saved money by making my "own" packages. I am used to finding the codes and getting the discounts, in fact it has been part of the fun of planning! I really hope they don't go the "package only" route. That would make me decide to give the S&D a try. I can afford the rates at BC and BWI, but I don't want to pay rack for them, it's the principal. I do not feel they are worth their rack prices.

I didn't get one this time either. In my case I think it's an AOL problem.

Hmmm.... I haven't gotten my newsletter, either. I'm not on AOL.
I wonder what's the problem??

You could register again for the newsletter. I know that even here in Texas we had some e-mail issues that were remotely related to the power outage on the East coast.

Unfortunately, re-registering doesn't get you the current issue.

Would someone would be willing to copy-and-paste the relevant bits here?

We'll need to get your e-mail address to forward it. There was info in it that she asked specifically that it not be posted on boards.

Unfortunately not.

Mary has a copyright and it states no part of her newsletter may be reproduced in whole or in part without permission.

Maybe your Mousesavers newsletter is ending upin your Bulk mail folder..... Just a thought.

Don't give up yet. Mine just arrived at 12:15 Central time so they are still coming thru The Worm virus may have slowed down some of your ISPs.

I didn't get my newsletter either but Mary has her thoughts on the future of room only discounts right at the top of her web site.

I haven't gotten mine yet this morning and I always get it first thing in the morning. Hope it comes soon as I'm anxiously awaiting to see what ticket discounts are being offered this month.

I just got my newsletter this morning, maybe they are sent out at different times for some reason?

This is not good news for us either. We have AP's because we go to WDW 3 to 4 times a year, in the winter season. I don't care if they call the room only rates AP, ABC code or Jolly Holidays, this is what keeps us coming back, more than once per year. We go during the slow times and it appears that many rooms are available then. Room only rates are good, mainly for people that go to WDW for several days during the 12 months. The packages appeal to those that that go to WDW no more than once per year or once every 2, 3 or 4 years or once in a lifetime. Maybe Disney can fill-up the rooms without regulars like us, if so then we are out of luck.

We have been to WDW so many times, we like to spend time at the resorts and skip the parks on certain days. On the days we skip the parks, we will still enter the parks to eat and then leave, which is another good thing about the AP. Without room discounts, no more WDW for us. Rack rate is way too much and we are lucky enough we can
afford them, but this is an insult to the loyal people like us. If a person goes to WDW with packages, then after the first trip in a year, add about $50 plus per night, to your room cost that "the discount" gave you. This would be the park entrance cost you are paying without the AP.

We AP holders are good customers. We spend money on their expensive and in most cases mediocre food and gifts. We also help fill the empty rooms in slow times, with room only discounts.
I know WDW is there to make a profit, but forgetting its loyal customers, doesn't make sense unless this package thing fills their resorts. Starting Dec. 14, WDW will have more rooms to peddle when Pop Century opens. Time will tell.

Now that I read the newsletter I can tell you my feelings about it.My husband is an airline employee and I am lucky to get a great discount from Disney.BUT, now the discount can only be booked as a package,no UPH,only mini golf included and it has the 45 days cancellation policy.DH's work has cancelled his vacation 3 times in the last 2 years with 2 or 3 weeks notice.Because they added the 45 days cancellation policy, I now have reservations at the Dolphin and at the Hard Rock, since they offer a more flexible cancellation policy.I was considering buying AP's this year to get the rooms with AP discount instead, but,it doesn't looks like a good idea anymore. It looks like the Swan and Dolphin and Universal's hotels are going to be very busy with Disney's new absurd marketing strategy
