I would like to know what you typically tip mousekeeping? Also - do you leave it daily or at the end of your stay?

Typically it is $1.00 a day person; do it daily, since you will not have the same person all week.

Leave it in a prominent spot; I usually leave it on the shelf above the sink area. They choose whether they take it or not.

Nothing. It's a non-tipped union position.

I always tip my mousekeeping (or maid service at other hotels). I tip daily. The general rule of thumb I was taught was $1 per person in your room +$1 more. So DH and I go alone we tip $3 daily. If we are asking for something specific the first day (like extra towels or soap or something), we will throw in more money. We always leave a quick thank you note around the money on the bed or the table depending on the room.

We always tip daily, around the same amount as the others here. Often there will be a little folded card with your mousekeeper's name on the dresser, near the TV. I put the dollar bills under this card so they can be sure it's their tip.

If there's no card, I will often put it near the coffee maker or ice bucket, something that they will be cleaning, and they get the message.

$5 left daily. The last day I will add in any extra change & a few more dollars since they need to do more of a "deep clean" when we check out.

This is what we do as well. The little folded card was on the bathroom sink this trip (YC). We leave the tip under it and they know it's for them.

We usually did $10 while at a Deluxe and $5 for value. Mainly based on what we are paying.

We tip $1/person/day...we leave it in the arms of one of our kids animals on the bed with a note thanking them for their service. We have been blessed with mousekeepers who have left animal creations from towels or who have arranged the kids stuffed animals in a creative way. Even if nothing special is done, I like to think I have blessed the mousekeeper who is probably getting paid minimum wage and probably has kids at home. I tip every day as mousekeepers may change dependeing on their work schedule.

I dont tip regularly. As someone mentioned it's a non-tipping position. But if we trash the room ( bins overflowing with food, packaging from shopping, glasses, cups etc. ) i will tip. IMO we are being slobs and they are picking up,after us, they deserve extra. If we basically leave the room "as was " where only bed needs to be made etc. Then usually no. On check-out day we leave a few bucks. I figure whomever has our room on this day is turning the room around; therefore more work.

For me tipping everyday 5 dollars per room is alot. Heck let me make the beds and refresh towels for my floor I'd be done in an hour and would have enough for a nice TS meal!!

I don't want to sound like a snob; i realize they are being paid lower wages ( though I heard 10/hr which is not low comparing to the millions who work retail jobs ). But I dont tip the guy who bags my groceries either.

Thank you for all the great advice. We are used to leaving the complete tip at the end of the stay, but, will probably leave a daily instead at WDW. I know some people wrote that it is a non-tipped position, but, feel that every little bit helps and if I can help someone out along the way....

We didn't have mousekeeping clean every day we were there (didn't think we needed anyone to remake the beds, etc since we were going to be there a whole week), we had the privacy sign out the whole time but even when the sign is out unless we have called to tell them we don't need mousekeeping that day, they left a bag with the supplies needed for the next day. A couple of days I caught the gal doing the cleaning and just got what we needed. Every other day, I gave her an envelope with $5 in it. It happened to be the same gal all the week we were there (Marie was I think her name). At the end of our stay, I personally gave her another envelope and thanked her for her service.

We normally tip $5 per day for the two of us. We do consider housekeeping a personal service, and feel the tip is usually well deserved.
Have a great stay!
:goodvibes

Housekeeping is a non-tipped position at WDW. Housekeepers make more hourly than the CMs who clean the park toilets.

If it is just Dh and I we tip $5 a day. If it is all 5 of us we tip $10 a day. Every day. Not all at the end.

I leave a paper saying Mousekeeping Thank You and put the money folded in the paper sticking out the end a little bit. If you don't leave a little note sometimes they won't even take the money b/c they are not sure it is for them.

Sorry, but this is simply untrue. Average mousekeeper makes $18k a year. The average WDW CM makes $28k /yr

The average custodian makes $30k/yr

$18k per year seem like living high on the hog?

Seems to me like some people can drop $500 a day on themselves then they get real worried that the lady mopping their stink out of the bathtub might be getting too good a deal.

I did check the website and found the starting wages for housekeepers and CMs in the parks. Housekeepers had better starting wages. Housekeepers start at $8.70 an hour. Laundry service starts at $7.90 an hour. Quick service positions start at $8.40 an hour. Attractions and custodial start at $8.15 an hour. Merchandising starts at $7.90 an hour.

So tip the persons in the parks as well as housekeeping.

Absolutely! And those are entry, starting levels. Most housekeepers are making above $10 an hour. And some are making more than my dd made in her preschool, as a teachers aide!!
Do I tip? Sometimes. If I return to my room at 2:30, and it's still unmade up, then no, I don't tip for the next day. I have seen some rooms and the way they have been left. I can't imagine having to clean those rooms. But my room? Bed needs to be made, trash emptied, and towels replaced...that's it. Takes under 10 mins to do.

Disney does not consider it's housekeeping staff to be a tipped position. That's their official stand. So, do what you will. But the vast majority of these people are not making just minimum wage. And if they have, for instance, 10 rooms to clean, and each one of those rooms leaves $3 a day, that's $30 a day for them in tips....$150 a week, and $7500 a year...just in tips. And it would seem that the vast majority of guests tend to leave more than $3 and I imagine that the housekeepers have more than 10 rooms to clean.
