i see that you can rent them at the Polynesian - do you knwo what time you can rent theese until,. I know that you rent them for 30mins each time, but just wanted to know when they "close" for the night. Planning to rent Late Sept.

Not sure what the hours are, but you can rent them at several resorts. We rented a boat at WL and got a real deal. The skies started to look threatening about 20 minutes into our ride and the CM's rounded everyone up and made us come in.

Because of that, we didn't pay. So it wasn't the full 30 minutes, but we did get about 20 for nothing. Pretty cool.

They close at 6 pm. You can rent them for longer than 30 minutes if you want. The cost is pro-rated, so you will pay for exactly what you were out, no worries about paying for 60 minutes when you were only out 45. It was about $20 per half hour last fall, not sure what the current price is.

Make sure you have a watch - when we went last time DH took one kid and I took another but I had taken my watch off for some stupid reason so I had no idea how long we had been out. He went back after 30 minutes and I was out for an hour without realizing it!

We rented them at the WL, but that's the same waterways as the Poly. 30 minutes is certainly enough to get a feel for the boats and have a fun ride, but to truly explore all over, which was my reason for renting them here, it takes closer to 45 min or an hour. WL, Contemporary, Poly, GF (including Wedding Pavillion) and MK are on that one lake. It's amazing to see these places from the water. While we were out, we actually saw a wedding at the Poly up on that high bluff. It's terrific and we all loved it, especially the kids, who were 11 and 15 at the time.

I *think* that 12 and up can drive alone. We rode with them, so I can't say for sure, but we let them both drive. Ironically, the 11 year old was a fantastic "driver" and the 15 year old was a disaster. After 10 minutes, she pulled over and let her dad drive.

I believe at Poly, WL, Contemp etc. at Seven Seas Lagoon, you have to have a licensed driver on board.

At BC/YC last summer, my 13 yo could drive himself but the boat was slower and there was not as much room to drive around. You had to watch out for the ferry boats. After 30 minutes, I was ready to be done.

The last I heard was that they upgraded the boats to SeaRaycers, and require that the driver be licensed and at least 16 years of age. Then I heard that they kept some Water Mice in some resorts, so maybe those 12 and over can drive there...I'd check that one out. My poor DS15 was so upset to hear that he won't be allowed to drive one this time around, although he could when he was 12.
