Mouse sets house on fire

I read on CNN than an 81 y/o man caught a mouse in his house. He was burning leaves outside and threw the mouse into the fire. The mouse ran out of the leaves on fire and back into the house! He ran just under a window and the house quickly caught fire. The house is completely destroyed!

Wasn't it a little cruel to through a live mouse into fire? He certainly didn't deserve to loose his house but what was he thinking?

I suppose that I should apologize for starting that thread.

I saw an update on CNN.com that restates that the 81yo's story about the mouse setting his house on fire is fishy. Apparently he used glue traps to capture the mouse and, once captured, he could not separate the mouse from the trap. So he threw the trap and mouse into the fire and, according to the man, the heat of the fire softened the glue and the mouse got loose.

If this isn't on snopes.com yet, I'm sure that it will end up there sooner or later. I'm almost as tired of this story as I am of the reports of Jolie's pregnancy. Sheesh. I can hardly wait for American Idol to start next week so that we have something new to talk about.

No, it's NOT true. Another case of the national media throwing out a story without verifying the facts. This was a HOAX, and the national media came out (finally) and said so.

The news media is getting more and more gullible each and every day, jumping on stories to be the first to get them into print (only to have to retract them later). I guess that's what we get wanting to know the latest and greatest news at a moment's notice.

Well, true or not some of the responses on here that came out as a result to that story were really shocking and I doubt those were a hoax.

I would have believed this story since my cat almost set my house on fire.

I came home to a clicking noise and a very warm apartment, I realized the sound and ran into the kitchen to find one of my stove top burners in full flame. I had an empty All Clad sauce pan on that particular burner that was completely black on the bottom and inside so it must have been on most of the day. The only conclusion I could come up with was the cat jumped onto the stove and turned the knob accidentally...dumb cat, there was nothing on the counters to eat!

Since then my stove knobs have sat next to the stove, I don't believe my cat Cleo has jumped up again, but I am not taking any chances.
