Motion Sickness

I generally avoid "spinning" attractions such as the Tea Cups, Swings, and even Dumbo & the Carrousel. This trip my travel partner really enjoys the Tea Cups so I said I would try to go on them. So my question is there any motion sickness prevention medication that really works ? There are so many different options. There is the standard Dramamine, patches, bralettes, pressure point bands. What have you used? What has worked. what hasn't?

I've been using less drowsy Dramamine or Bonine on the cruise ship and it works well. Even though they are "less drowsy", they can make you very tired. If you decide to try one of those, try it at home to see if it will make you too tired to enjoy the theme park.

Something that might help on teacups is to try to hold it steady so it spins less. I do that on Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin. It's a big effort, though. I suspect your friend probably enjoys the spinning. Back before I had inner ear problems, I used to spin those cups to the maximum spin. Now, just riding it without trying to spin makes me sick.

You could also just offer to take pictures/video from the sidelines while your friend rides

I'm in the UK so what I use might not be available in the same way in the States, but I have horrendous motion sickness and I use a joint approach with treatment - patches that I put on every day and tablets.

The patches that I use are these ones:

And the tablets I use are called Kwells with the main ingredient being Hyoscine hydrobromide.

You may not be able to get these exact treatments in the US but may be able to find something similar.

Not sure exactly how/why but this combination works a dream for me. I put 2 fresh patches on per day (one behind an ear, one just under my belly button) and then take the tablets before going on any particularly triggering rides (usually 1 but sometimes 2 for the really rough ones). Haven't had issues with motion sickness since and this has worked for me in all of the parks I've been to in the past year.

Only caveat is that I don't tend to go on spinning rides anyway so haven't tried it out on something like the teacups, but it did work on Cosmic Rewind.
