My MIL has motion sickness and vertigo. I asked what makes it bad and she said inverted or backwards. She has ridden the tea cups and was ok with that. I instantly thought about Rockin Roller Coaster, Expedition Everest and Spaceship Earth. Which other rides should i be concerned about for her? We haven't been to Galexies Edge yet, and haven't ridden MMRR. We are going to all 4 parks.

Haunted Mansion has a short section where you are backwards going down an incline (from the attic scene to the graveyard scene). It's short and slow, but it's there. There is also a very brief backwards section on Frozen Ever After.

I have pretty bad motion sickness, as well. The other one I thought of was Flights of Passage - that one can be tricky with motion sickness. I pop some Bonine an hour or so before and it makes it manageable for me! I can also feel a little rough with Space Mountain. I was fine on Rise.

If she still wants to ride be sure to take some motion sickness pills (or there is also a patch for behind the ear) and it will help. When I was younger I could ride intense coasters over and over again with no worries. Now after one ride on some twisty, upside down, flip you around, type rides I need a few minutes for my inner ear to recover before I can ride again. Getting older has it's drawbacks for stuff like this.

FOP and Smuggler’s Run leave me blah; I sat on a bench before even leaving one of them. Star Tours did the same the only time I rode it ten years ago.

MMRR left my DH feeling ill.. all the spinning and moving quickly,
. .. but he loves coasters and we try to do them last or before our midday break. He swears by seabands they are bracelets they sell at walmart and many others in the pharmacy area. That help with nausea med free.

I'm anxious about FOP. Is it the type where I could close my eyes or look down from the screen if it gets bad??

I get motion sick very easy. Definately on the coasters and, in particular the backwards part of EE. I still love riding them but it is tough. Star Tours does me in. Yes. You can close your eyes on Flights of Passage and be fine. It is spectacular but I was only able to see about a third of it and came of feeling lousy.

I'm not bothered my motion sickness, but Impressions de France after a few drinks...woof!

My hubby gets a few adult beverages down before going on rides. He suffers from motion sickness and this normally does the trick. He can’t do star tours though.

Motion sickness is such an individual thing, it's really hard to predict how someone would fee. For example, I was sure Mission:Space wouldn't bother me and I was fine during the ride. But afterward? The entire rest of the day was ruined, although it was hardly torture to sit on the savannah-view balcony at AKL for a few hours.

Does anything going backward bother your MIL? Or does it have to do that at speed? Because HM is pretty darn slow, as is FEA, which also has a backward segment. There's a fair amount of motion in RotR, although it all seemed pretty tame to me and I can't recall if anything goes backward. But once you're on RotR, it's over. You can't back out--and it's not like you can see what's about to happen--you can't. And this is the last attraction on earth you'd want to see in advance--the surprises are just too much fun.

As other posters have mentioned, has your MIL tried Bonine? My sister swears by it.

MK: Under the Sea has a short backwards section too. No worse than the Haunted Mansion ride though.
HS: MMRR you pretty much go all 4 directions (frontwards, backwards and side to side). No inversion though! :rotfl:

My husband gets motion sickness badly and FOP is the worst for him. Once he had to put his face in his shirt while riding because he was afraid he would puke on all the people below us (which had happened right before we got on the ride and they had to shut it down for cleaning after multiple pukers!)

Even now if I have my FOP scents going he gets queasy!! :scared:

I get motion sick and suffer from Vertigo. I wear the patch the entire trip. Star Tours still gets me by the time it's over. FOP I can ride, if it were any longer I'd be in trouble. Everest, if I wait and ride in the very front, I'm fine. If I ride in the back, I'm doomed. SE and HM, I actually love the backwards parts. It's nice and slow and feels great on the back :-). I wouldn't even attempt Mission Space, but I can do most other things with the patch on.

I have had motion sickness since I was very young. I take medication to fly, cruise and drive if not in the front seat with air circulation. Per rides at WDW: There is NO way I could ride on the tea cups. I would be green!! I rode Rockin Roller Coaster once. Never again. I did Expedition Everest once. Never again. I have no issue with Spaceship Earth. I did ride Avatar but kept my eyes closed the entire time. I wanted to see the que and all the ride is about. I have never tried Soarin'. I do okay on test track but would not do Mission Space again. I have ridden Space Mountain a couple times but would rather skip. The Peter Pan ride at Magic Kingdom - very motion sick - far worse than Space Mountain. Actually got sick. I do fine with Mine Train, the Railroad, and my favorite ride is Splash Mountain. (Mine Train and Railroad I sometimes have to take a moment. To do too much back to bak is difficult.) I have no problem in the Haunted Mansion. I have done the new Star Wars rides and had no problem. There is a ride in Dino Land that I tried once and got sick on. I do not remember the name. I have never tried Tower of Terror but that is because I am just a big chicken. Years ago when we started going to WDW I tried to give each ride a try. I know what I can and can't do. My significant other LOVES every ride and lives to go to WDW for the rides. He is very understanding. He has seen me ill enough to know my stomach just can't take some motion filled rides. IMAX theatres are not good for me.

I was really nervous about it, too! The ride itself doesn't move much - it's very much visual. Have you been on Soarin'? I would describe it as a more intense/close up version of that. So, yes, if you feel sick you can 100% close your eyes and it helps. Or look off to the side. You'll still be seeing screen, but the visual stimulation (at least for me) feels less when I'm looking to the side vs. straight on. I would highly encourage you to give it a shot. It's just the most incredible ride. I was almost in tears the first time I rode it. It's difficult to explain. But I'm definitely a ride-baby and I don't miss FoP now! I just take some Bonine and I'm fine!

I've done Soarin many times. I can definitely feel a bit of "ick" at the end, but I recover quickly. Everest I was woozy for a few minutes after because of the backwards part, but I'll probably do it again. ToT was a one and done for me. I didn't get sick, but it made me feel pretty cruddy while I was on it. Most coasters I do fine. For me, its going backwards fast (I can do FEA, HM, SE on problem) and motion rides. I've always said my body and my brain both have to be moving!! :)

I swear by 24 hour Dramamine. When we're at Disney, I put the little bottle by my toothbrush and take one every morning when I brush my teeth. That saves the trip for me!

I totally understand that! I feel WAY worse on Everest than I do on FoP. The backwards motion gets me every time.
