Motion Sickness!

Sadly- FOP made me dizzy--- but it was absolutely worth it! In fact, I rode it again a couple of hours later as we were able to pull another FP for it that day. However, I was trying to get a FP for Navi and we could have had a third for FOP, but I decided two was absolutely my per day limit. It is amazing- but I think a third ride would have made me feel bad for the rest of the day. I also would not do it twice in a row-- I would need an hour or two in between rides I think. I will do FOP again our next trip. It is amazing.

I can't do tea cups unless I have my own cup and hold the wheel steady to keep it from spinning. No way can I get in a cup with DD and DH as they like to spin.

Star Tours I can do once without feeling dizzy, but if I do it twice in a row, I start to feel dizzy.

Mission Space Green does not bother me-- I will not set foot on Mission space orange.

TSMM does not bother me at all.

The Harry Potter Ride at Universal, I may not do again although I love Harry Potter. I was very dizzy after that one. I would not ride that one a 2nd time with DH and DD. I'm glad I rode it once.

I have really bad motion sickness so I take a Bonine or Non-drowsy Dramamine (Meclizine) each day at least an hour before going on a ride that may bother me. With the medication I can do most rides, but still avoid Star Tours, Primeval Whirl, the Tea Cups, Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, Mission Space, and Rock and Roller Coaster.

I can do Flights of Passage, but have to close my eyes occasionally. I also found a trick that works. Focus your eyes on something high on the screen instead of looking down or straight ahead when it's moving quickly. Makes a big difference for me. Several rides cause me to still have a mild queasiness at certain points (like the hard stop at the end of 7DMT), but nothing that stops me from enjoying them.

We are Bonnie people too! Great stuff!!

I cannot ride anything that goes in a circle. Dumbo is the most frightening ride!
I did Mission Space before they created the green version. I sat in the hallway for 15 mins afterward.
But the absolute worse experience was at old Disney Quest. There was a flying carpet simulator ride. To my teams chagrin I just closed my eyes and didn’t move. It made me so sick I couldn’t do anything else all day. It was an awful lot of money to spend on ski ball for the rest of my time there.
I fully expect my first time on FOP will be the only time.

Have you tried Crystalized Ginger? You can buy it in Harris Teeter's deli area under the name brand Sweet Melissa. I like to cut it up into bitty-bits (and store it in a bit of Tupperware) so I can have just a bite or two. Works INSTANTLY and it seems to me to be more healthy than medicine.

Is this a preventative move, a post-ride move, or both??

The tea cups are a no go for me and I prefer to stay away from Star Tours and Mission Space (green) although I can usually handle one ride.

The absolute worst for me is the circlevision movie in China. It felt like it was only seconds before I was on my hands and knees, deep breathing.

I’m looking forward to trying out FOP. My husband previewed the Harry Potter ride and said it was an absolute no go for me. I’m hoping the smooth coordinated motion will help.

Will also try bonine at night. I can’t take it during the day because it makes me nauseous (a very silly side effect for motion sickness meds)

Like a fellow poster, I did not have issues with motion sickness until I was over 30. I grew up near Cedar point and could literally ride every ride in the park multiple times, all day long, and be fine. Now, a winding drive through the mountains does me in :-( I still love rides, and use the prescription patch that was mentioned previously. It does help, but leaves you with blurry eyes and dry mouth. As a point of caution for those who are curious about FOP, I am sorry to say that that This was the only ride during my last trip that left me feeling absolutely miserable for several hours. It is, indeed, an amazing ride, and I truly hope you are all able to enjoy it. Star tours, TSMM, Space Mountain,
EE, Rock n Rollercoaster, TOT...all of them I was able to navigate with the medication. But I will probably never go on FOP again :-(

My tolenrance for motion sickeness is about the same as you do.
I can't handle Space Mountain and SDMT back to back (granted SDMT is a fairly smooth ride) and Mission Space: Orange (oh boy! Never again!)

Oh, yeah, teacups are not for me. I can ride coasters all day long, but I can't take the spinning motion. The really bad thing is that once you're queasy, it's so hard to get over it. Prevention is better than cure.

I use prescription scopolamine patches.

I used these on a cruise and they seemed to work well. I've been wondering how that would translate to amusement park rides. I am extremely prone to motion sickness of all sorts, unfortunately. It sounds like the patches were effective for you - how about side effects like blurry vision?

I have horrible motion sickness, I don't do tea cups, mission space, carousal. I usually try to do Space mountain once to get it over with because everyone else likes it. If I am trying a new ride and am worried it may make me sick I try to do it at the end of the night before we are leaving so if I do feel sick it won't ruin my whole day.

I am going to try the find some crystallized ginger because Anti Nausea meds make me feel worse :guilty:.

I forgot about the circle-vision movies! They get me too - but if I look at one spot I am okay. FOP was fine for me, but I closed my eyes for a bit of it, as I'm afraid of heights and some of it made it seem you were high up. Forbidden Journey (the one in Hogwarts) was borderline for me, as there were enough stationary parts to get re-acclimated. Gringotts was a piece of cake after that.

I use Bonine as well, and have had no motion sickness issues while using it. Without it, the 360 degree movies make me very ill, worse than any ride. I think it’s because the eyes say I am moving when I am not. I take my Bonine each night before bed and it lasts 24 hours for me.

OMG!!!! That....is me! It's rare when mine hits and odd when it does. The Riverboat over in Liberty Square got me one year as did the Ferry coming over from TTC. I was like....ah! Boat hadn't even moved, but the water was causing us to bob and my eyes were like here we go but my body was like nope! Hubby reminds me to focus on something inside the boat and it helps. I do okay on the teacups when I ride because I don't let anyone spin when I'm in it. And again, instead of looking outside the teacup which will also do me in....I focus on who's in there with me!

I have never had blurry vision, but do have a little dry mouth. I also used these for the first time for a cruise. Put one on before I got on the plane, and oh my gosh, I read a book on the plane! Dramamine and Bonine do nothing for me, but these work. I was able to do mission space orange without throwing up, but I won’t try tempt fate and try that one again.

I have motion sickness and haven't been able to ride for years. Space, Star Tours, etc. Last trip I used Sea Bands and Ginger and it worked well. No sickness. Sadly, Dramamine did nothing for me.

I find I'm progressively motion sick the more I ride every day on lots of the stuff listed above. I wear sea bands now at all theme/amusement parks and feel much better. I still can't go on the spiny rides, but multiple rides on Star Tours is possible as is riding multiple roller coasters in a row at Cedar Point.

I'm worried I will get motion sick easier this trip because I have new progressive (lineless bifocals) lens. If you don't look through the bottom or sides of the glasses things can be a bit more blurried.

I have gotten queezy at Mad Tea Cups, Mission Space and Star Tours .. but only on multiple rides in a quick succession.

My plan this trip is to take some non-drowsy Dramamine every morning just to help out.

I think this was my problem a few weeks ago on BTMRR. I have always worn contacts but have been wearing glasses recently. I plan to ask my eye dr about toric bifocal contacts and try Bonine next time.

I get mild motion sickness, and hubby gets it pretty badly. He can't do most of the coasters or any motion simulators. He did try FoP on our recent trip, but came very close to losing his breakfast, and won't ever do it again.

We both find that ginger chews (like the GinGins brand) help a lot on anything that is borderline for us. Hubby was able to handle 7DMT, AS2 and SDD after having a ginger chew as we went through the queue.
