Dramamene or Bonine? I have used the non drowsey formula of the dram but was wondering about Bonine? Has anyone used both? Which works better?

I have only used Bonine so I can't help you. (Bonine has worked for me, too, BTW. ) I used my Bonine for cruises, though, not rides at the parks. I haven't had motion sickness on any rides enough to use it. I was just posting to say that if you don't get helpful replies here, you may want to post on the Disney cruise board. I am sure that you will find people there that have used both.

Thank you my fellow Carolina dweller!!! :) I don't get too sick on rides but sometimes a butterfly type of tummy......I will check out the cruise boards....I appreciate your quick reply!!! :sunny:

Mythbusters did an episode on motion sickness. If you don't want to take drugs, try ginger tablets, they worked the best.

A sailor from South Carolina sends.

I have heard that as well....that is a option to try since I don't get "really really" sick!! Thanks for that as well........Southern hospitality this mornin'!! ha ha ha! :flower3:

Bonine and the non-drowsy Dramamine are the same thing--meclizine--generic name of the prescription drug Antivert.

::yes:: And if you have a Costco....or maybe another warehouse store by you, you can get 100 meclizine for only $5!! I just got a bottle preparing for a cruise

candied ginger, ginger ale, ginger snap cookies, and ginger altoids are also quite effective in quelling a quesy tummy!! (as well as ginger capsules from the vitamin store section!!)

I couldnt believe that MythBusters proved it worked!! I thought for sure it would be busted, that the effectiveness of ginger was all in *my* head - lol its NOT a figment of my imagination after all!! :rotfl:

Why take drugs you may not need? We travel and cruise a lot and we swear by Relief Bands (http://www.reliefband.com/main.html) . My wife and daughter used to get motion sick all the time, especially on simulator type rides (and cruises) until we found these.

Note that these AREN'T those little elastic bands (called sea bands) with balls that you get at Walmart (we didn't have much success with those). Relief Bands are electronic "wristwatch-looking" things that are the ONLY FDA approved device for motion sickess and nausea.

The advantages over drugs are:

1. No side effects
2. Only use it if you need it
3. You can use it AFTER you get symptoms
4. It works incredibly fast (within a few minutes)
5. You can dial up just as much relief as you need.

These things are fantastic and well worth the price.

I get terrible motion sickness on things that spin and I used a combination of the Sea-Bands and Bonine. Worked like a charm. I think we did MS 3 times on the last trip with zero ill effects (although I also am religious about following the instructions). Good luck! This past weekend I was at an unnamed amusement park and used just the Sea-Bands and was fine as well (although we didn't do anything heavy-duty -- if we did I probably would have backed up the bands with the Bonine).

My kids and I just recently watched a show, Popular Mechanics for Kids, and they explained, not to eat sugary things like donuts, or drink soda, but instead, eat lots of grains, muffins, bread, ect. That will cut down on the acid in your stomach, and help with motion sickness.

I've used both and can't tell if one works better than the other. I would use the smaller dose so you won't feel tired (unless the small dose doesn't work). Bonine can make me sleepy too. We give DS the chewable dramamine...the bonine does not give a kids dose. The sea bands do not work for me. Good luck.

I love Bonine! Always cures my nausea and is chewable raspberry flavored. Also, if you are already nauseous, try drinking some Dr. Pepper. It works wonders for nausea. :thumbsup2

I'm another believer in the wrist bands, although I do also back them up with a dose of Bonine. Never had much luck with Dramamine. On one flight to Orlando years ago, I wondered why I was feeling quite nauseous since i had taken Bonine and then it dawned on me . . . . . I'd forgotten to put on my wrist bands.

I remembered to put them on for the flight home . . . . and arrived home a happy camper! :thumbsup2

Anyone ever given kids the ginger pills? I bought a bottle to try on our next trip and noticed that it says "Not intended for use by persons under the age of 18".

Not a problem. I was torn between what to say. On the ship, I usually tell the greenies to look down at the water moving by. The vomit valves usually take about 45 seconds to open up after that. :rotfl2:

But I decided to be nice in this case. On land sickness isn't fun.

Just have fun.

I just had this conversation with my pharmacist this morning. We are leaving in 2 days for the beach. She said that ginger is great, but they don't really know how it affects kids. She said that you could even dip you finger down in a jar on ground ginger if you need quick relief. But for kids, she said that an antihistamine like Claritin (non-drowsy) for a couple of days before the trip will help. Then use the dramamine or bonine if you really need it. She also said that if the vomiting has already started, give kids Benadryl. Evidently, the medicine in the motion sickness pills is in the antihistamine family. I have had 3 separate pharmacist tell me about Benadryl, so there must be something to it.

Not sure what's going onwith the Relief Band site, but here's a link to where we got ours on drugstore.com. It has a lot of info too.
