Motion sickness on rides?

My DH is very prone to motion sickness on rides - especially rides like Space Mountain, Rock N Roller Coaster, etc. For our upcoming trip in December, he would like to experience Expedition Everest, but is concerned about becoming ill. He was wondering if anyone on the boards here has ever tried Dramamine or another anti-motion sickness medication prior to going on some of these rides, and if so, did it help? Thanks!

I am very prone to motion sickness. I will need Dramamine or something in the car on the way (4 hour drive) And also daily for rides, even though I wont touch the extreme rides such as TOT and EE :sad2:

I also get motion sick but not as badly as your husband. I've never tried medication for it, but a few tips about EE. I've ridden it about 5 times and what works for me is the very front and the inside seat (right seat). When we first rode it we sat in the back, I had the inside seat and I was fine, then we rode again, I took the outside seat (big mistake) my daughter told me look to my left and see straight down (when going backwards inside the mountain). You can and it started my stomach churning. After sitting for about 30 mins we rode again, asked for the front and I took the inside seat and it was fine. The front you just don't get as shaken up as the back.

My husband swears by the Transderm Scop patches. He usually just wears them for flying - but if we go to WDW, he wears one the entire time. He is able to ride all of the roller coasters at WDW with the patch. In contrast, I actually saw him turn green after riding a relatively mild roller coaster at Cedar Point in Ohio without a patch.

Do a search, this topic has been discussed many times. Everyone has different levels of tolerance for rides and different remedies work for different folks. I am the queen of motion sickness. I need dramamine to ride in the car, but even with it I can not do the extreme rides. Keep in mind that side effects vary from person to person too. Best wishes.... :) .

My daughter uses the acupressure wristbands. You can get them in drug stores for about $10. She uses them for rides, long car rides and plane rides. They work wonderfully for her. Definitely worth the try! :thumbsup2

I took Dramaine the morning we went to Animal Kingdom. When we rode EE I did not get naueous at all. I did feel kind of dizzy and had to sit for a few minutes. My husband did not take anything and was very sick after the ride. We had to go back to the hotel!!!

I totally agree with sitting in the front. I get motion sickness in the car, but I do OK on RNR and Space (although another 30 seconds longer on space, and I might not be OK). I take 1 Meclizine every day at WDW. On Everest, we rode 3 times before lunch a couple of weeks ago. The first two times we waited for the front seat, and I felt totally fine. The 3rd time, we were in the back, and I was still OK, but did feel my stomach turning a little green while we were going backwards.

The Transdermal Scop patch (Scopolamine) is the only way to go. No drowsiness like Dramamine and Bonine. It's available only be prescription and it has been a Godsend to me. I get violently ill on anything that spins and all coasters (even Space Mountain!). So for our honeymoon last year I asked my doctor if he could prescribe something and he gave me the patch. It is the size of a dime and goes behind your ear. It lasts for up to 3 days and then you put on a new one. You must never touch your eyes when handling the patch since it can cause blurred vision. Just wash your hands after applying and don't fiddle with it during the day!

I thought we would have to stop riding rides, but the patch saved me! I have a 3 pack in my makeup case right now waiting for out November 9th trip!
