I see that some people experience motion sickness once they are back on land. My question is would taking Bonine for a few days after you are home cure this? I get extremely motion sickness and plan on taking Bonine and ginger tablets for my cruise. I already have the wristbands, but I am not sure they will work for me. I just think that would be terrible to also feel motion sickness once I'm home.

Anyone know the answer? Thanks.

Unfortunately, motion sickness does happen when you come back home. I took my first cruise in 1988, was wearing the patch (never again!) and was sick in the cabin for the first three days (until I decided to take the pills... must have been Bonine that the doctor gave me). Needless to say that when we decided to cruise again last summer (7 night land and sea), I was quite anxious. I started taking Bonine two days before cruising and stopped on the last day. The first night was the worst. It even woke me up, but I wasn't actually sick. After that, it was fine (but I did feel the motion and kept on feeling it for about four days after we got back home). We will be cruising again in March (Western Caribbean) and I still intend to take Bonine, but I will keep on taking it when I get back home until I feel no more motion sickness. My TA is as prone to motion sickness as I am and she says that keeping on taking the pills (or wearing the patch) after getting back home really helps.

All I know is that feeling the motion when back at home bothers me less than feeling it on the ship!
Good luck to you :)

On our first cruise in May of this year, I was not the least bit worried about motion sickness. Granted, I knew while sitting at Tritions eating my Sea Bass that we were moving, but it was nothing overwhelming.

It wasn't until after I got off the cruise that I felt like I was still on board rocking back and forth! It lasted nearly a week! I had never thought of taking the bonine after getting home. I'll have to try that this time.

Leaving in 9 days!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

To me the "rocking" feels worse off of the ship than on during the cruise because the ship usually rocks only slightly.

Remember what the prior posters said - sometime the motion sickness meds will make you sick too. Besure to try them out well BEFORE leaving on the cruise so you will have an opportunity to visit your doctor (if needed) to adjust the meds. You don't want to be sick -- but you DON'T want to sleep through the cruise either!

I will be stocking up on Bonine soon!! How many tablets did you take and when? Were they the chewable kind? I did chew two this past summer on our way to an amusement park and then went on three rides that I know would have made me feel ill and it seemed to work. I'm not daring; they were just rides that went in circles (merry mixer and swings). :D

Mickeymom,

From what I have read in here, most people seem to be taking Bonine in the morning or at night. I did things a bit differently. I took it (the chewable ones) once a day, usually around 3 pm, about 2 hours before the ship was getting ready to leave port. And I wore the seabands, but I don't think that they helped. What has helped the most was eating regularly (I took snacks in the day and in the evening even though I was not hungry).

But given that I could still feel the motion, I will try taking two Bonine a day before our next cruise. As jrabbit said, it is important to try it BEFORE actually getting on the ship. If I had done so in 1988 with the patch, I would have known that it made me sick and it wouldn't have partly ruined my honeymoon!

;)

Speaking as someone who gets VERY motion sick, and actually survived skirting a hurricane on Majesty of the Seas last November!

Bonine usually works best. You can order a bottle of 100 tabs for about $10 from your pharmacist. This is much cheaper than buying it the regular way - 8 pills in a bottle for about $4. The other option, if you have really good Rx coverage, is get a prescription from your doctor. The one I got from mine allowed me to take it up to three times a day.

If you do feel the need to take more than one, spread it out. Also, it can make you sleepy, so try it at night first.

I also carry regular dramamine. This is a different chemical, and shorter acting. Last year when we were in 20 foot seas for a couple of days, I took both bonine and dramamine. I was kinda sleepy, but never got sick.

Our DCL cruise will be my fifth cruise, and I love it - but I'd never go without my bonine!

my daugther and i experienced that feeling of movement for a week after the cruise....(after being on the 3 day cruise)...
it feels like you're moving all the time....
but it's not unbearable......we didn't take anything for it....

I had no idea that you could get sick afterwards! That could very well explain why I felt so sick for about 3 days after. It was horrible! While on the ship, although I know it is not a popular option, I used the patch and I loved it. The only side effect I had was dry mouth, and I also drank alcohol w/ no problem! If you haven't tried it, you may want to give it a shot. I actually thought that the nausea I felt after back on land was a side effect of removing the patch! (I get sick over anything, so nothing would surprise me!)

Perhaps everyone will have a new appreciation for our sailors and marines who sail the seven seas for six months at a time. :-)

WE GOT OFF THE MAGIC ON NOV 9, I REALLY FELT THE MOTION WHILE ON THE SHIP BUT DON'T GET SICK FROM IT. ACTUALLY IT IS A FUN KIND OF DIZZY FEELING FOR ME. EVERY NOW AND THEN THIS WEEK, I WOULD GET THAT SAME FEELING. I LIKE IT.

My Dh calls it a cheap drunk:D
I feel motion like a ship moving for at least a week after.... I think it s because of my inner ear problems. I noticed it most when leaning forward, I tended to keep going forward!
