My boyfriend and I are taking our mother's to the World for Mother's Day weekend, a long weekend, we will have Friday - most of the day Monday.

I have three dinner ADRs planned and we will deff hit shows and some rides (maybe not all of the thrilling rides ;) ).

The goal is to show them that Disney World is a GREAT place to visit without kids too. My "mother in law" (not yet officially) is convinced that you can only do Disney World with kids and she did not have fun in the past because they past two times she went her kids were young. So she does not see why you would go there except to take kids.

I guess we are trying to show them why we love Disney so much, why it is for adults too, and how it is an interesting, fun, exciting place to go even as adults (minus children).

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!!

I took my 70 something mom on a trip and we had tea at the Grand Floridian - it was really lovely and my mom loved the sophisticated calm of the GF! We had tea sandwiches, strawberries and cream, pastries, Earl Grey - the works - all of it very good and the ambiance even better. You can check the menu on allears.net.princess:princess:

You go girl. I have been trying to drag my dad there for years! lol

The tea thing is a great idea. If they love theater, definitely take them to the Beauty and the Beast show in DHS. And I have never been to La Nouba, but it does seem like a grown-up thing to do!

Epcot is a great park for adults. My nieces do love it, but World Showcase is definitely more adult-oriented. This is all stuff you probably already know though.

My suggestion would be to take them to "fancier" restaurants, or restaurants with more elegant theming. Chefs de France is great. So are most Signatures. Can I ask where your 3 ADRs are for? Are you doing the Dining Plan?

oh my...i could write you a book on this! i don't have kids and love WDW--i just got back from a solo trip--yes, solo--and had a ball! i enjoy nice restaurants, and on my MK day i left the mid-day crowds behind and went to the Poly for lunch (kona cafe) and walked around the grounds. the hotels are BEAUTIFUL mid day, when everyone is at the parks! i park hopped to THREE (!!!) parks in one day just because i could. you can shop in world showcase, do a monorail resorts tour, ride the pooh ride (oh wait--that's a kids ride...but i still love it, and i'm 31!) i super-enjoyed festival of the lion king and walking the trails in AK--the latter being something i imagine would be less fun if dragging young children along (though depending on the child, it might also be awesome!) i made rope drop every day, which made touring SO MUCH EASIER. the list goes on!

i'm also taking my mother for mother's day--this year (less than a month!) and i've planned...
1. the wanyama safari tour (we're staying at AKL)
2. tea on mother's day at GF cafe.
3. dinner at cali grill for wishes
4. the segway around the world tour.

hope you have a magical trip! i think your 'mother in law' will be pleasantly surprised!

Thank you so much!
 We "gave" them the trip as their Mother's Day present last year so it was a gift and they had to go! haha! We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, not a place we would normally spend the money to stay but because it is a gift and my goal is to show them how awesome Disney is I guess I kind of went all out. The other thing is they do not know what hotel we are staying at or what restaurants we are doing for ADRs. pixiedust: Surprise as much as I can keep it.

I guess I am looking for suggestions of what not to miss in the parks. I am not sure they will want to do thrill rides, such as Expedition Everest or Tower of Terror although my mom loves Twilight Zone. I do not want to force them on anything.

We are not going on the dining plan. We have annual passes and will be purchasing the Tables in Wonderland card to apply to meals. The ADRs are planned for La Hacienda (a night where we can see Illuminations, I am going to ask for a table by the windows - hope it works!); Brown Derby (Fantasmic Dinner package), and Nacroossee's (on Mother's Day night at 9 PM for Wishes at 10 PM).

I was thinking I should try to explain some of the rides and ask them which they may be interested in and deff see the shows. Thoughts?

I do not mind [reading] books! We do not have kids either and think touring the parks is great! Even the Pooh ride! popcorn:: I certainly think it is GREAT that you did a solo trip!! I love touring the resorts as well. Less then a month away I know, ours is 3 weeks on Thursday! Thank you so much for the suggestions and ideas!

Nice! My brother and I tried to use my dad's birthday to take him. I even told him he could play golf half the time! Let's just say I am holding out hope for next year. :rotfl:

Animal Kingdom Lodge is a great resort. I don't even like the AK but I love the AKL. Hopefully your guys' moms get a kick out of the animals! I am not a huge fan of Boma for dinner, but Boma for breakfast is very good.

Well the good thing is non-thrill rides vastly outnumber the thrill rides at WDW, so I would tell them that to put them at ease. They should highly enjoy certain rides like Great Movie Ride, American Adventure, Soarin', etc. They may even like Toy Story Mania. My mom does, lol.

Great ADR choices! I didn't love Brown Derby but I only had lunch there. Narcoossee's is great! It's on the water also. Are you going to eat there during Wishes? Just like CA Grill they turn down the lights and pipe in the music. At least they did when I ate there a few years ago.

Lots of luck getting your dad there, I bet you will convince him and he will love it! The golf courses look very nice! Of course I would not know from experience. hah!

When our moms have visted in the past it was before AK existed so the park will of course be a new experience for them, as well as the resort. My "mother-in-law" loves animals so I think she will certainly like it (I hope!) and my mom will think it is all very neat I am predicting.

The plan is to be eating at Narcoossee's during Wishes!! Fingers crossed! I do want to ask, is it normal that everyone goes outside to watch Wishes which in turn blocks the windows for those inside? Can you hear the music outside? Also can you see the electrical water parade (sorry I do not know the official name) from Narcoossee's? I have never seen this and I wouldn't know how to know whether to expect it to happen that night or not?

Thanks a million for this info and insight!!! It is invaluable! :yay:
