I am curious about what a bride feels about the type of dress the mothers should or should not wear. I believe the bride is the only woman the attention should be on. That said, I was at a wedding over the weekend and the grooms mother, about 45yr old, with a cute figure wore a black with gold sequin trim dress that was backless, down to the very low small of her back. Most people commented on her and not the bride. The bride was very adorable and looked great in her dress. The mother of the Bride wore a black halter dress that did not fit her well and she was spilling over in places. So brides do you want your mother to look hot? Or maybe this is not anything that bothers you in the least.

Traditionally the mothers of the bride and groom should avoid wearing black (though this tradition has really ended now) and avoid wearing the same color or a similar color to the bridesmaids dresses and obviously avoid white or off-white. I think there are lots of elegant dresses out there that aren't overly attention getting. If I was the mother of the bride, I would avoid a low backed or overly sexy dress at a wedding. Don't worry though, everyone pays the most attention to the bride.

actually never worried about my mom....but if she picked out something right off a vegas strip then i'd have words with her about it being a different type of event...my only requirement was for her not to wear white...on the other hand my MIL has a cute little figure but she's old (sorry mom)...so finding something that fit her and didn’t make her look like a bridesmaid was a challenge…

Quick solution go shopping together..its a lot easier to say something isn’t right in the store then finding out at home…
