Hi All

Does anyone have any advice on Mother & Daughter trips? Not that I think our trip will go badly, but if anyone has any experiences to share, I'd love to hear them!

Mum and I are flying on Nov 15th and staying at AKL for 8-nights. We went in summer with my Dad and my hubby too but it ended up a little disasterous as Mum got sick (well burnt!) and was in a wheelchair for the last week!!! So we are going back to do everything we missed - which was quite a lot!!!

I do get on well with Mum. She's a funny one and has many little quirks - but out of my siblings and I - I seem to be the only one who "gets" her and "gets" her little quirks. I think that is why I seem to get on really well with her and why she asked me to go back with her and not my Dad (he'd had enough of Disney!!!)

We're close but not that close - you know there are some things we'd never share!!! :rotfl:

I can't wait for the trip - I'm expecting our first baby in April 2009 so its probably going to be the last holiday I will get for a while due to finances! (unless we win the lottery!!!)

I did an adult mother/daughter trip in October 2007 and we had a blast! My mother and I are very close and rarely tire of one anothers company, though. I did a similar trip with my dad this past September, and wanted to kill him by the 2nd day... for the record we're "close but not too close." Here are some basic tips I learned:
  • drink often- you'll need the liquor after about that 2nd day
  • wear sunscreen...or you'll end up in a wheel chair for a week ;)
  • be willing to do things without one another, such as walking to the resort gift shop, walking the resort grounds, riding rides that the other wouldn't like. If you don't do this, you will end up being resentful and it will show :sad2:
  • don't be selfish, it's their holiday too
  • laugh often and at one another!

Have a great time! :goodvibes

I have never been to Disney World, or any other Disney Park, without my mother (although I have been considering trying it sometime). We try to go at least every other year and our most recent trip was this past September, which included the two of us and my daughter (14).

My mother and I get along great most of the time, so it isn't a very trying experience to travel with her but I do have to remember that she isn't as young as she once was (though she is by means elderly) and thrill rides do not agree with her. Every time I would start to think that it might be more fun without her, I would just tell myself that at some point in time I will no longer have her company but the Disney memories will last forever.
