Most outrageous thing that happened during school days?

In 7th grade some students from another town came down and there was a big brawl on the school field.

Watching a friend (with our English teacher's permission) igniting a model rocket engine by sticking the igniter into a wall plug during class certainly sticks out. Entire room was filled with smoke, but somehow we did not set off the school's smoke alarm.

Not too much exciting happened that I remember now. One that stood out is a brand new student teacher that had an affair with one of the cheerleaders.

Hm...a couple of notables come to mind:

1. When I was in 11th grade, my parents went to Hawaii for a week and stupidly left my sister & I at home by ourselves. I threw a big house party with booze while they were in Hawaii. My mom went to her grave never knowing about it. And I was one of those kids in high school who always followed the rules and never got in trouble. I will NEVER EVER let my kids stay at home overnight by themselves. EVER!

2. My 12th grade math teacher was memorable. He was notorious for:
  • always being out on the day of a test. About half way through the school year, we'd all convinced the substitutes that the math teacher let us take the tests as group tests. He never caught on to this.
  • rearranging his man bits & his underwear while standing in front of the class. This happened all the time.
  • having an affair with the ceramics teacher while he was still married to the economics teacher.

Two stories stick out in my mind...

1) As a senior prank, someone snuck into the gym, got into one of the ceiling vents, and dropped dead fish, and God knows what else, into a hard to reach area/section of the wall. He then proceeded to close the vent up, and make it appear that nothing had been changed around. Fast forward 7 days, and half the school smells of death. Classes are being held outside/in the lunch room, because some of the rooms smell so bad that people are throwing up. Finally, on the 8th day, school was canceled. A group of police officers search the school because the smell is so bad, teachers are worried it's animal/human remains. The finally locate the source, clean it up, and we all go back to normal classes (but the school had lingering strange smells for another few days). Half the kids knew who did it in the first place, but he got away with it because there was no proof. lol

2) When I was in middle school, a "problem" kid was caught smoking in a bathroom by a pregnant teacher. In his attempt to escape punishment, he knocked her over and she smacked her head pretty bad. He had an in-school suspension for weeks. Teacher and baby were fine, but she had a nice big bruise/lump for a while.

There were a physical altercations ( fight) between teacher and a student that still shocks me happened and that the teacher was not fired and the student expelled.

We also had a streaker run through the cafetaria.

In my oldest DS high school, the biology teacher has a pet snake about 4-5 ft long that just hangs out in the classroom not contained in anyway. He just crawls on the kids desks and the kids pick him up and everyone is fine with it. That is shocking to me! But one day the snake went missing. He was lost for months! They gave up on finding him thinking he had got outside or something. A few days after school let out for the summer, a janitor was cleaning, and she moved a stack of chairs. Sure enough there was that huge snake alive and well. The story is that the poor woman almost died of fright. No one had thought to mention the missing snake to the cleaners. If it had been me I probably never would have returned to that job!

In about 4th grade, 3 friends of mine emptied the yellow liquid soap in the bathroom & replaced it with a less-sanitary yellow liquid. They had to scrub the entire school top to bottom as punishment. Took weeks!

In HS, 2 girls brought a greased pig to let loose in the halls as a senior prank. But, they greased it while it was still in the car & it was too slippery to get inside. So, that was a big fail.

We had a Math teacher that had an imaginary friend. Never could figure out if she was crazy or just trying to pull one over on us. Sweet as can be though. A girl I went to school with wrote a book about our town and some of the goings on with the kids at school. Other than that the normal stuff

We Had a smoking section for student outside in the breezeway.

A few come to mind, but this one is the easiest stories to tell. We had a lifegaurd class. One of the freshman girls in my class was strapping a senior boy to the backboard for practice and he got an erection. To break the weirdness, the teacher said "well, at least it works!" That one went around the school like wildfire!

During the summer between junior and senior years, a math teacher killed an English teacher with whom he'd been having an affair.

Back in the 70's remember the record the streak? Well someone got the brilliant idea and streaked at school at lunch time….

We had a streaker at our Senior Awards, held a day or 2 prior to graduation...mid 70s.

Had a history teacher in my sophomore year of HS who was "out there". Class was 9th period, if 10th period was a study hall, you could leave after 9th. Kids would tell teacher there was an assembly, and she'd say ok...off we went.

A mom brought in a hammer so that her son could use it to beat up another kid during lunch, over a stolen jacket.

Our high schools still have smoking doors for the students. That's not the norm?

My high school had a sev right next door and my grade 12 math teacher used to let us leave class to go buy slurpees or whatever as long as we brought him back a pack of smokes

Our janitor set the school on fire..while classes were in session. $20 million in damages and we were out of school for close to two months while they did repairs. Luckily there were no injuries beyond a few with smoke inhalation.

When we moved to Florida in 1980 it was wild. The area was likely the fastest growing in the country at the time. The school system was struggling to keep up with all us new kids. It wasn't a case where the kids controlled the school but in some circumstances it seemed close to that. The bus trip to school one year was interesting. The driver was a chain smoking, leather tanned lady that yelled constantly. The bus was full to the max, 3 to a seat, with other kids standing up on the ride to school. Kids were fighting on the bus, rolling over seats most days. Some of the guys would paste playboy pictures all over the windows. And typically the bus driver didn't stop, she would just hit the accelerator, yelling and screaming at us kids the whole way to school.

The year after we moved out of the area I remembered hearing the school began two teaching times, one very early for students to attend, and another that began in the afternoon for another group of student going into the evening.

The saddest event was in Florida too. A school classmate that sat near me was murdered in front of the school. Some crazed stranger guy hit her with a cement block in the head. it made national news, and every so often I still see the event covered discussing if the death penalty should be allowed or not.

Not much really outrageous. I recall someone set fire to a bathroom one winter morning. The alarms went out and we all filed out--and after the fire department dealt with it we were told we could not reenter the building that day due to toxic fumes from the plastic toilet paper covers melting. So it was about 20 degrees as a high, if that, and most of us had no coats, or house keys, or money and most parents would not be home for hours.

One friend in our circle had his wallet on him and an "emergency" credit card from his parents---we all went to Perkins and he charged it all and we all paid his parents back within a day or two (his parents were very good about it once they knew what was going on).
